Fast Cobalts I need help
Alright i got some more mods on that me and my crew finished about three hours ago... they include
-gutted cats
-custom designed and machined traction bars
-port and polished intake manifolds
-RSM 62mm throttle body
-Bosh blow off vavle controller
-custom 3.5" downpipe
-and some sweet BFG drag radials that i'm sitting on my old stock rims...
about fifteen minutes ago i just dynoed 316.7whp.... up from 296
I want to run 12's finally, but i need some of the fast Cobalt guys to give me some pointers about how to launch this thing.... I'm excited and hope to reach my goal tomorrow... fill me in

There are a lot of factors that will affect how you should launch the car. First off, is the starting line at the track you are running sticky or slippery? Does the track use VHT on the starting line? How have you previously launched the car and what were your 60 foot times? I took mine to the track for the first time last friday, and as you can see from my mods, I am not quite stock, and I was running 14.3's at 104 mph with 2.4 60 foot times. Obviously, I was not hooking off the line. I am on stock street tires and was leaving the line at low rpm (2000 - 2500)to keep from smoking the skins in first. I would suggest that if your drivetrain can handle the impact, that you leave the line at 5,000 rpm if you can without smoking the tires. I don't know what axle shafts you are running or what clutch setup you have, but these can be two weak points with stock Cobalt components. Also, if you really are using the M86 trans, that is the low torque capacity trans that comes in the non supercharged cobalts. The supercharged cobalts use the MU3 trans. You will break your trans if you do have an M86.
What track are you running at? I have run at KilKare before and hooked really well (not in the Cobalt). My Cobalt runs were done a Milan Dragway just west of Detroit. Not the best hooking track, but good for 1320 foot adrenaline rush.
Mike
PS - Let us know how you do.

the M86 I have in my Grand Am was reinforced by Superperformance Inc. in Fairfeild to handle a max of 420ft-lbs they say..... I do have stock axles, so when I put my BFG Dragies on, I hope I dont snap one.... But now I've had enough practice to figure out that there's a really fine line between bog and spin but you've gotta shoot between there, around (5300rpm) in order to leave properly..... But yeah like you said, i hope i dont snap an axle... I'll let you know what i run
A RAN A ****** 12.308 LAST NIGHT!!!!!!! I DID IT!!!!
excuse the shitty scanner but i'm car 339 in the right lane....

I launched at about 5500rpm and they spun for like two second and just ****** hooked like nothing..... For the first time i used full throttle all the way through the damn quarter and had a 116mph trap!!!!
BTW... the left lane driver is a kid with a 99-04 V-6 Mustang..... lol he kept looking over and revving with his K&N filter and actually laughed when he saw me put my helment on.... The only time he was ever close to me during the entire race was at the staging line
