First time on the Strip

So, I went to the drag strip for the first time yesterday. It was a big day at the strip and there were many diferent classes. I raced in the Sport Compact Eliminator class (no slicks must be street legal).

We had 2 time trials then it was standard E.T. Bracket elimination. I will post the slips up soon but needless to say my best time was aprox 14.225. I made it all of the way to semi finals and brought home a trophy!

In the semi finals I got kinda stressed/nervous and I got hung up shifting into 2nd. This is not a normal problem for me and I have been driving a manual for 10 years. Should I invest in a short throw shifter and metal bushings, would that help?

Anyways I will post my slips in a bit!

stick with the stock shifter. shortthrows actually cause more wear and tear on the linkage and arms on the trans. that and the stock one works just fine.

If anything get shifter bushings, you don't necessarily need the short throw as mentioned...

The bushings will stiffen things up and make your shifts crisper. Not to mention they are quite cheap.

i always hated bracket racing these cars. hahah so inconsistent. really the only way to win is to dial about .3 slower than your average ET and then drive accordingly based on where the other guy is

It's better to considerate more on your 60 foot times than trying for good reaction times....... reaction doesn't count against your ET at all .....but a good 60' will make or break a pass.

uhm, no in what he was doing the reaction time added to his overall package. bracket racing=RT plays a factor.

package=ET+RT-dial. smaller the package the better.

Ahhh guess i didn't notice the bracket racing .....saw the slips and assumed it was just time trials.

HPtuned and trapping 101-103? With bolt ons? What was the temp? Humidity?

And isn't the track a blast? So much fun!

Track temp was about 80-90 degrees F. Humidity was aprox 50-60%. I was running 22 psi on stock conti's.

The track is also at almost 6k feet.

And it was E.T. bracket racing so consistency was the goal.

My biggest problem was wheel hop at the launch.

And yes the track was a blast. I cannot wait till my next chance to go!

Colorado Elevation ..... it really hurts power . 14.0's up there is prolly mid 13's for the rest of us.

EDIT: forgot the link
http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-...calculator.php
You can use drag times DA calculator and get a rough idea what it would do at sea level. The day he went the DA was over 8000 feet . The calculator corrected his pass to a 13.5@ 107
