Massive traction problems

I ran 14.3 at 102mph tonight and im damned frustrated

Ive never cut better than a 2.4 sec 60 foot with this car, my tires are bald

im looking for some lightweight 17s which i cannot seem to find because of our retarded bolt pattern and thinking about the BF goodrich KDWs for tires

x2, buy some real tires for the strip and not street tires.

M&H or hoosiers mounted on steelys.

I ran a 2.2 60' on the factory pirellis. They only had about 1200 miles on them though, lol. Ran a 14.5ish

well you said you had to wait 45 mins to run, thats more then enough time to change them out.

ya why not just get a set of steelies from an hhr and put some sticky tires on them, switch when you have 45 min to spare then swap back to drive home

I'm usually able to cut low 2.2 60's with occasional high 2.1's with the stock pirelli's. If the track prep was good, there are times at G-ville Raceway that I can get better traction on the street.... I got my KDW's installed and I'll be testing them at the track Wednesday night. I'll let you know how they are.

my Pirelli's are below the traction markers and have 21,000+ miles on them, whatever they used to do doesnt matter now

I dont have the room for carrying around dirty ass tires in my trunk or messing up my interior, I want something I can put on before I go and drive there on

Steelies are not wide

I'm asking for 17inch rim options, if you cant answer the question quit wasting my time

I am pretty sure it's not the tread of the tire that is the problem young grasshopper (i.e. Driver).

I was cutting 2.0 60's with stock Pirelli tires that were bald to the cords. Pretty sure I had a lot more TQ than you too.

There is a difference between tread and compound FYI.

l2d imo

im not worried about tire selection thats easy what has not been easy is finding a sub 19lb rim that fits our bolt pattern and is 17x8

Actually, bald tires seem to grip better at the track. I could never get below 2.3 60's when they were in good shape, I was nailing 2.2's and 2.1's when they were about gone, at about 26000 miles or so.

I roll thru the burnout box get the tires wet. lock the ebrake down. dump the clutch and hold her at about 5K rpm till they start smoking. Then when I launch, I hold it at 2K rpm, then ride the clutch out a few feet to get rolling, then stomp it to WOT. If the track is prepped good she grabs hard. If the prep is bad, spin spin spin.

its not even worth it to make your tires hot unless you have drs. if you spin them at all its just to clean them off a bit..

17's are heavy... and not good for Drag Racing.

Seriously... do it the right way, get to HHR Steelies, and mount some frickin Drag Tires on them. THEY DON'T HAVE TO BE WIDE, they will still grab the ground. You get a lot more power, 350+, and then you can worry about getting wider Drag Tires.

You fall into the "Axles will turn to dust if you try drag tires" catagory

But, if you have upgraded axles... I imagine that you could use some rather wide tires...

This is true, unless of course you are about to drag race in low 40 degree weather. Us guys in Florida can do that, no snow! The stockers are hard as hell at that temp and spin in 3rd gear. Not to mention the lovely Florida dirt (sand) that is all over the freaking place.

grab a set of nitto neogens... i used to have the same problem just spinning the tires... with the stock 18's they dont spin even under full throttle in first, second just a slight chirp and they hook up.. .and as far as being a street tire, i used to have bfg g force sports and these are way better..
