New Personal Best!! 1/4 mile

Went to the track today and achieved some new personal bests in 1/4 mile time runs! My SS/SC is still completely stock and is the non-LSD. I got in about 6 runs before it started raining. I don't have pics. and don't feel the need because I have a witness from this forum who drives an STI, plus the times are not freakish either. I will post 2 times because the rest are all close. First my best run, which was my last run. 14.476@100.03mph. My third run, 14.611@99.73 mph. I still had heavy wheelspin so I believe I am capable running maybe a 14.3 if I could launch a little better. All in all I am very happy with my Cobalt!

Damn! Good times. You have to change your signature now. What were your 60 ft times on the two best times?

Elevation 650 ft, temps of 43 degrees F. Maybe someday I will post pics. Forum memeber was tom5078 who witnessed.

Oh yes, wheelhop from 1st to 2nd. Have my bushings but have not installed them yet. I am still waiting on my motor mount which is on back order. I want to install them at the same time. Plus this is the first time I have notice my tires chirping from 2nd to 3rd!

MID 14s????????? That's the best that GM's new "tuner machine" can get stock? That is **** poor guys. I'd be bitching up a storm if my s/c car only ran 14s. Guess it's all relative though...I paid less with all my work than you did for your new car to go 2 seconds faster. What a shame. Definately just took the Cobalt SS/SC off my list of might buy cars.

If your happy with the times though then congrats. Really is a shame that you guys aren't running 13s stock though.

I went yesterday and ran a 14.6 at 98.01 with a 2.4 60ft but spun through 1st and part of 2nd and also had horrible track conditions. With a good set of tires that will stick and good conditions I think I could hit a 14.3 or better completely stock.

Alright well not every car is meant for speed. Relax bro. I think the cobalt ss/sc is a good all around car. Great gas mileage, great handling, decent speed, and great interior.

I disagree on the interior part. The leather is cheap, the dash is plastic and cheap. They did a **** poor job on the interior of this car. When it's cold out, my vent's stick because of the plastic being cold.

I have nothing wrong with my interior. I don't have the inserts falling apart and I like the leather. I have the sunroof button problem though. I think it's a very nice interior fora $21,000 car. I only paid $18,000 for it too.

A modded car to a stock car is an apples to oranges comarison. You probably had to put $10,000 in your car to run what it does now. Oh, the cavalier is a girls car.

If I put 10K into my car I'd be in the 11s or 10s bro. I have just over $4400 into my car. That includes the turbo kit, exhaust system, gauges, timer, 2 boost controllers, and drag radials. No where near $10K. With the extra $5600 I could finally build a killer motor to hold 30PSI like I want to.

And I'm comparing numbers to numbers. Not stock to modded.

Hmm....Well this is a different engine than yours and our pcm's are still kinda on the locked side....However, this guy just made his 2.2 ls cobalt, which he had bought for $14,000 brand new, into a 9.8 second car.

Moral of the story: You can make any car fast if you have the money. End of discussion.

SS4ME: Keep up the good work man. Go back to the track soon when it gets warmer out to lower those 60 ft times and you're bound to break into 14.3's if not 14.2's

You have a good point Ryan the car should be in the 13's stock. But they can't hook up for ****, if they could it would be a high 13 second car. The Cobalt LS, adding a turbo would be the best bang for your buck, if you had cash on hand. Like the way your going and the way that 9 second LS Cobalt in STL is going.

Anyways, it was fun and nice to see a 14.4 out of a stock CobaltSS. Good job GP on the 14.4 at 100 MPH. My best today was a 13.370@101.78. But mostly in the 13.4 at 100MPH, which is the same trap SS4ME was trapping! It was a good time at DaGrove even with the rain.

Ypu paid less for your car because it's old, and phased out. Not that it's a slam or anything, so don't go blowing a gasket yet, it's a fact. The Cavalier has been around for a long time. So, given it's age, and the fact that as a result, it has as large an aftermarket as hondas do, I would sure as hell hope you paid less for the car+work to go faster, cause if you paid more you'd be an idiot.

Here's my opinion as to why our cars don't run 13's stock, and this is just MY opinion, I think it's for the same reason the GM underrated the HP on the S/C's.

Thanks to GM underrating the HP on the car, it still qualifies as a "compact/sedan", not a "sports car". It's for this reason that I pay 121 a month for my full coverage, where as for my 89 Turbo Supra, I was paying almost 100 for JUST liability. Now, with that in mind I ask this...What possible sense would it make to have a "205 HP compact/sedan" running 13's in the 1/4? Yeah, ok, the insurance companies will buy that like I'll buy an igloo in the desert. GM"s demographic with this car was the "tuner" crowd, which is dominated for the most part by, as you guessed it, the most expensive insurance group there is: Single males, under 25. If GM gave out the real numbers to the insurance groups, and made our cars so that they did in fact, run 13's stock, I don't think we'd have half the members we do on this board, let alone on the road. THAT, in my opinion, is why our cars do what they do.

I'm starting to think this car is capable of a 13.9 with the right rim/slick set-up. I still have improvements to make on my 60ft times, so a 14.2 is in sight, with the crappy 18's and hardass P-ZERO's!! I'm sure we will see each other this summer. Good luck in your golden nugget!
