Phoenix Drags...tips?
Phoenix Drags...tips?
Hey this is kate, if your not farmiliar with me, my boyfriend is the one who usually posts on here. We both have ss/sc's. We went out to firebird last friday my best time was a 15.4 @ 94.30 This was the first time for me to race a standard car.
What have you found to be the best launch techniques? I didn't rev past 2500 for lack of traction. It just felf like the track was soaking wet. And also the announcer was saying that we were getting really good mph times but pretty poor ETS which i agree.
Phoenix is just so damn hot,
I'm not blaming my car entirerly on where i live but really. So any tips would be great for me, also is anyone going out this friday to firebird, i'm not sure if i am yet.

I have decided that i am going to go out this weekend i dont think steve is though, well its up to him. We were the only cobalts out last weekend so i have more people do show up this time.
hmm maybe this is the start of another meet ...
launching the car is unfortunately the only thing hurting the car because in reality on a track ... you can't. But don't beat yourself up over it cus everyone else has the same issue. In regards to Fireturd it has to be one of the worst tracks in the world cus most of the time the people there just dont give a rats ass. The only person I think that had a good time when they first started was George (cobaltsupercharged) cus they actualy preped the track before he ran.

You guys don't give firebird enough credit, There is a natonal event there, do you know how rediculously they have to prep the track in order for cars with 7000-8000 hp to get traction? As far as traction, the car gets wheel hop, its front wheel drive, and has thin tires. I'v gotten a 2.2 60' time before, and didn't even so much as chirp the tires. It just takes practice, and dropping the clutch is completely the wrong thing to do. Use your clutch, let it and your gas pedal do the work, not your tires.
I havn't been back to firebird for over a month and a half because it's getting to hot to race now.
i am going to wait till it starts to cool off again.
But when my wife takes the Redline down I think her best is like 15.6@94mph she has been improving a lot.

There isnt a very good way to launch a stock SS/SC. To much power + FWD = the suck...having no experience I imagine a low RPM launch might help. Like 2000 rpm? I've never driven one to know....
What I do in my WRX and helps alot is I preload the tranny. Using the e-brake I have the clutch slipping at 4500 rpm. The car wont move and when the tree falls I mash the gas, let off the ebrake and let off at on the clutch at a reasonable pace....
best 60' so far is 1.797....not to shabby considering that was stock...I've only gotten 1.8 since modded...
anyway a similar technique may work for you, just try it on empty street and see what works the best....

no that wont work at all and will in fact make things far worse and blown 4. they prep the track at those events because they are required to. every friday night they dont need to have a care in the world for those people that go just to have fun. with huge events there are prizes and cash on the line.

Actually the NHRA has it's own travelling "Safety Safari" that preps the track. The same guys prep the tracks for all the National Events, so its not even the same crew.
