Question about insurance...

I didn't really know where to put this, but since it has to do with the track, I'd figure it'd go here...

Anyway I was wondering if you do something to your car, like say someone next to you spins out and hits your car, or like you hit a wall or something...Will your insurance cover your car? I mean, it doesn't really seem like they would because you were racing...I just wanna know if insurance will cover if something goes wrong while at the track.

PS. I'm not talking about drive train issues, I'm talking about stuff like...a car in the left lane spins out and hits your car or whatever.

if anything... that sounds like it would be his car insurance covering your car....

but I would expect a raise in your premiums because they will have proof that you are abusing your car and putting it in unnecessary risk

I'm thinking.....no.

But to be sure I'd call an insurance company and ask. There was a company who offered insurance in the pits but once on the track they would not cover anything that happens.

Thanks for the fast replys guys. I guess, unless someone is an insurance rep on here, I'll have to call the company.

I know this is obvious, but read your insurance contract. It should explain everything, but most people don't really read it until they need to.
If you call them they will probably want your name to check exactly what coverage you have.

Actually now that I think back a little more, It is Very Unlikely that your insurance will cover anything that happens while racing.
I've heard of people rolling and totalling their cars while doing "track day" laps at the local road course, that's not even racing but insurance won't cover it and they were out of luck.

Nope, not covered unless you buy specific track insurance...which costs and arm and a leg. I think when my ex and his friends were looking at it for OLOA, it was something like $1500/day to insure.

You were smart to post your question here because I'd bet a lot of people haven't thought about it and don't realize that they are not covered.

It is the same with your warranty. If you break parts at the track GM doesn't have to fix it.
