Racing with an auto?

i am not really going to try to bring my stock auto 2.4 to the track any time soon. im just curious about the technique you would use if you were going to race.

anyone have any input or experience with this?

What type of racing? I would assume drag. if that is the case I know it can be done no problems with an auto but as for tips I have none to offer. If you want to race around a track an auto isn't the best choice but it could still be fun. I wouldn't really recomend actual racing (as in with other cars) around a track though the risk of a crash is pretty high, a few laps alone however would be real fun.

If dragging in an Auto apply the brakes, add throttle, you'll feel the car "wind up" and when the light turns green gun it.

yeah, dont shift through the gears, that usually makes you slower and more inconsistent(i race my auto focus) and put your brakes down all the way, bring your throttle up(not to the floor) then right as you want to go, let off the brakes and apply the gas at the same time.

My technique with my 2.2:

Shifter in "1" or "L"

Brake to the Floor

Throttle to the floor

Red
Yellow
Yellow
Yellow (Release Brake)
Green

When you get to about 65mph, knock the shifter back into D

Dont let off the gas until you get all the way to the end

Actually gas shouldnt be to the floor. It should be at just below the rpm your torque converter is rated for. A safe bet would be under 2500 rpms. If someone knows the actual number that would help.

Put it in D, Brake to the floor, throttle up to 2250ish rpms. When the light goes green release the brake and mash the gas pedal to the floor.

edit: The L to D method might work. If hack has done it before with no problems I dont see why not.

I have the second highest 1/4 times for the Auto 2.2

in my 2.4 the fastest way i tested was in L mode thru 1st and 2nd gear then finish the race in I mode. i hold the throttle to about 2k rpms and let off the brake at the second to last yellow light.

ok, so you have pretty much the worst times on the site, and don't recommend shifting?

Really? Haha I guess that puts me with you? I ran the same exact time.....Spun through all of first and had to let off it a little though. I did what you do and started in 1 then went to 2 then to D. All I have is an Intake....haha and about 200 lbs worth of system.
