stage 2 track

Well i havent run a 5 speed car at the track since 5 years ago
Took my ss s/c out today
Car is 6 weeks old and the gm stage 2 kit was installed yesterday

60 ft 2.4
1/4 14.5
101 mph

The track was horrible....2 other stock ss s/c's were running 15.2

I dont understand...i can go down some back road and launch perfectly were no spin (around 1300rpm)

I go to the track and do the EXACT same and i cant get traction in first....i woulda thot the track would have been more sticky than the road.....anyway, i guess alot of guys were complaining about the track

BTW i get NO wheel hop

you probably arent getting any wheelhop because you have no traction and your tires are spinning

Racing on a track is allways harder than on the street.

The tracks surface is made from a rubber component that bonds with heated SLICKS. Street tires rip up the track surface because they are generally made of a much harder rubber. Track preppers love that, NOT!!! Next time you are at the track, try not dumping the clutch at all.

some places just brush the track and dont spray any of that sticky stuff which makes traction horrible.

Perfect example of the street is different than the track. Your on street tires not track tires. Street tires do not hook the same on a track. Just practice you wil get it.

i didnt dump...i took off at 1200rpm with no spin, but as soon as i started to press the gas with the clutch all out, i spun

O well...like mentioned, i need practice

Try holding first gear longer. You will feel the wheel hop when the tire spin results in traction. You may think you are at the top of first gear, but you're just spinning. Hold first gear a little longer and the revlimiter will kick in, let you get traction you will bog slightly in first and then your actualy speed will go up and then you will feel wheel hop. This all happened to me.
It's worth a try for you too.

And yes, you can do crazy wheels spins at the track that you could never do on asphalt. Concrete gets so smooth and bald at the tracks.

When I ran at the track last, I would roll off the clutch at about 1600-1700 rpm, you have to get the gas and clutch right, but I've gotten a 2.29 60' without hearing a single chirp of the tires. I also noticed if I let the rev limiter hit 2 or 3 times at the top of first I get a low 2.3-high 2.2 60', if I just shift as soon as I hit 6500 I get high 2.3-low 2.4 60' times.

Its much harder to launch a radial tire on a track that isnt hooking than on the street . Its why I drive 2 hours away to drag race when I have a track in my home town 15 minutes away . I can run 13's on a track that is prepped right , but I have never run faster than a 14.3 at local track ......and even that was purely amazing I pulled that off .

What was the mph of the other stock SS/SC's , that'd be a good way to judge how better the stage 2 is helping you .

1st ever pass in my CobaltSS tonight. mods are intake and exhaust(lowered as well)2 passes were 15.019 at 93.5mph and 15.021 at 98mph. This launching IS WAY DIFFERENT than on the street....slower off the line is key. Thought maybe 1700-2000...RPM launch. NOPE! Wheel hop like crazy...let off so they would catch and by the time I got back on it I was rev limiting. 2nd pass was maybe 1500-1600 RPM's but too much still! Did that on both passes like a jack ass, I need some serious seat time. I'm used to dragging a pure drag car with line lock and trans brake......way different!!!but its broke (tranny)so I figured Id take out the balt and test her out before the stage 2 comes in.....sadly I didn't get enough practice launching. I'll try around 1200-1300 next time! Shoulda read this first huh! Was a bit muggy today and about 68 degrees during my passes. Better results next time...fo shizzles! :P

Think its time to see the dealer

I went to the track as well and couldn't even break a 14 it sucked hardcore. I ran faster stock than stage 2 which is pissing me off but this friday it looks like we are making a small cobalt bash so I will try some new things and see what happens. the conditions here in phoenix are horrible even at night but that is no excuse for me and I am determined to get this **** done right.
