Traction

Anyone have any secrets they can share about off the line acceleration? In perticular 1st and 2nd I can't get any grip. I usually easy into it then once i get to about 3 I then hit it hard but slowly but even still it will break loose. I have always wanted to know this. I don't race much but when I did this past summer I got frusturated but didn't ask anyone .....and who better to ask then you guys and gals who own the same car who might be have the same delema. I did have lots of rubber. I have Gm Stage 2 fyi

Launch pretty high in the RPM range. Maybe 6k. Feather the clutch out. A little bit of spin towards the top of first is okay. When you go to shift to second, don't shift as fast as possible. If you clutch in, shift to second then wait for the RPM's drop a little before letting the clutch back out, you should have regained traction and won't break the tires loose.

So your saying a 2-3k launch then have to pedal the throttle to keep traction is faster? That doesn't make sense.

Anything too high and you risk snapping our toothpick stock axels.

That's why you don't drop the clutch you feather it out.

If you want to do good at the track you're going to have to upgrade it sooner or later.

If you want the quickest 60', launch at a higher RPM doing some feather work.

If you prefer to save your clutch forever launch around 2k.

Our axles arent that thin....To the OP I usually launch around 3000 and feather alittle. But I'm going to purchase the 2 step launch control....seems like it really works well launching these cars consistently. Stickier tires will help alot too, since the stock ones pretty much suck. Also any motor/trans mount upgrades would be a good idea.

My buddy has a bolt on 2.2 on the stock clutch. He gets his best 60's launching at 6.5k. After 50+ launches at the track his clutch is holding fine. There's a difference between feathering the clutch and just straight up spinning the clutch.

I'd say 160 whp on a weaker clutch. The point is, if you know what your doing, this clutch will take it for a quite some time and you won't snap axles. It all comes down to how serious of a quarter mile time you want. Do you want the fastest quarter mile time, or just an average one.

well that might b the case but as far as iam concernd launching at 6k is ridiculous especially something not built for that. on a 2.2 ecotec? and if i did that my clutch will let go and go in limp mode to protect itself, i just think it doesnt make any sense and i dont know what you think these clutches that chevy puts in can handle but certainly not 6k launches

My best 60' was 2.145 with the stock Pirelli's. That was launching at 2K RPM. There is no need to do 6K launches "feathering" the clutch.

biggest way to get traction is throttle control. learn to get to the point where the tires almost break loose but don't. spinning tires means slower acceleration. i can't go more than about 1/2 throttle without braking loose from a stop, so i don't go more than 1/2 throttle from a stop.

feathering the clutch from 6k is a nicer way of saying burning the **** out of your clutch. all that does is allow less acceleration, which is the same thing that having better throttle control will do, except you won't burn your clutch at all.
