Depends on the track also if they will make you wear one or not. Most tracks you can rent a helmet for a fee.

here in miami to wear a helmet you should be running 12s. In my opinion someone who runs 13s is and wears a helmet will look pretty stupid. But maybe thats the rule in ohio.

And it is.... I have a recaro helment that I have to wear in order to race... 13.99 is the highest you can run before a helmet.... It seemed pretty dumb until a guy with a TransAm fishtailed into the barrier one night, flipped it three times, but came out unharmed because the roof that was supposed to crush his head didnt because of the helmet...

wouldn't worry about it until someone says something. And if they do tell them this is the first time you have hits 13's

Rules say 12.99 or faster requires a helmet. If you can't keep your high 13 second car out of the wall so you need a helmet for safety, please stay home.(not directed at thread starter or you Ljavy17).

OneFast20 check your rules again.

kinda off topic but i just dont want you to get your hopes up, i havent seen anyone run a full second quicker with just stage 2, chevy only claimed .7 in the quarter. ill be very surprised if you hit 13's just adding stage 2, but good luck and i hope you do it

most of the time, until you run that low ET... they won't say anyhting... once you hit that mark, they will say something most of the time.

Here @ PRP, they are spotty with it depending on what night it is. @ test and tune nights, I think they are more lax on it, but on event nights, they are supposed to be a bit more strict about it.

I've heard some say there that once you run 13.99, you must wear one, and others saying NO.. it's 12.99

If you ran high 14's stock, with street tires, who knows depending on the weather what you can turn.

I've not seen a GM staged car run, but we have some running that have the intense kits ( of varying stages and tunes ) and some have run low 14's and one even ran a 14.00 @ almost 109mph... and that is with bad street tires, no exhuast work ( well, gutted cat ) and a CAI... Traction is the worst part of the runs. Once we get hooked up it flies down the track.

My best time was a 14.9 @ 94 ( had a 15.2 @ 97 ) and my 60' times SUCKED...

Anyway... good luck in getting down in the 13s.. should be cool.

BTW... what track are you rrunning?

it's not that the driver can't keep there 13+ second car on the track. it has to do with the guy next to you that had a 13 second car and decided to put a 250 shot on it and send his car sideways blowing fluids all oveer the place into your lane or even worse into your car. it's just a safety precaution. if you really worry about how you look at the track, please stay home(not directed at thread starter or you ljavy17)

Different tracks, different rules...I know by me, they'll boot you if you run anything below 14 without a helmet.

Um, no. These are NHRA rules, not track rules. Most tracks go by the NHRA rules. Your track is dumb.

thats uncalled for man, i highly doubt you go around to all the tracks and check rules. so what about the 1000' foot tracks and 1/8 mile tracks, what do all those tracks have? here the 1000 foot track if you run lower than 11.50 you gotta have a helmet

Hit 13s first then get a helmet. At my track you can rent a helmet (GROSS) if you break into the 13s and want to continue racing!

At Quaker City Raceway it's 12.99 or faster to wear a helmet. Unless they changed it since i moved about 10 months ago.

But yea at Firebird its 13.99 and faster you need a helmet.

...or the faulty tire that blew...or the thing on your car that broke and caused you to lose control. I'm so used to wearing one for auto-x, where speeds are FAR lower than a strip, I'd probably just wear it at the drag strip too.

In the immortal words of Seinfeld.

"I cannot believe that we have helmet laws to force people to protect the very brain that decides that it doesnt need to be protected."

Ask the guy eating his food through a tube if he felt "cool" not wearing his helmet.

Wake up and use your head.

Go run 13's and then see what they say. The first time I went Edgewater Sports Park in Cleves, OH, the guy didn't say anything. I was running consistent low 13's. A few weeks later my first run was a 13.1 and the guy told me I needed a helmet to run anymore. It just depends on who's passing the tickets out. The track rules require a helmet with a 13.99 or better but they don't seem to enforce them until someone is running low 13's.

Just my 2cents! Good luck with 13's... Hope you get them!
