Went to the track last night and..

I'm having issues with my new PR. Last night i ran a 2.0 60' BUT had a 13.7 1/4?? I did not NLS 1-2 but did NLS 2-3 and 3-4. I did not launch the car. Just took off like one would at a stop light. Perhaps i needed to stay into it a bit longer. Shifted at 5500 RPMs. Did that due to most of the dyno's shown here that the curve drops off after around 5500. Any thoughts? I'm happy on the 2.0 60' but... the 1/4 is not anything special. Had a 13.9 stock. lol... getting down on myself. I have very good tires. It did not bog down and my traps were around 105. Any thoughts?

The next race was against '93 vette set up for autoX. I got out of the hole and beat him in the 1/4. BUT.. my ticket showed him with my 60' time and the exact 1/4 i previously ran. I saw his previous race and the time showing for me was consistant with the time showing for my number. Could they have swapped times?? I am not sure if that was possible. He and i later talked about it and he agreed that i beat him. Was strange.

LOL.. true.. was at Tulsa. I'm really upset.. GMS1 and REALLY good tires... should be way lower than that. I would think.. others are 13.4?? .2 from stock with GMS1 is not good IMO.

just takes some getting used to. lemme know next time you go out(i'll pm you my number) and i'll watch ya and see if i can give you any pointers. when i was stock i was doing 14.2x consistantly with 2.0' 60' times. then i added my pulley and 60s and that was it, nothing else. and ran 13.7xs. then when i added everything else and the methanol my fastest run was a 13.81 cause i just couldn't get used to launching it and was pulling 2.30 60' times. but when i DID get used to it. hahahah....damn.

you should be shifting higher than 5500. The gearing is so long in these cars, that you aren't helping yourself at all by shifting so soon. I've talked to some LNF guys that say to shift just after 6k. Like 6200.

yeah the spring nationals are comin up may 14-16 with the top alcohol funny cars and dragsters. so theres probably gonna be a lot of testing going on. unless you're talking about 5's in the 1/8 which would be the bracket s/p dragsters on their stops. btw don't go to the midnights if you really want to get some runs in. that one day me and you and my friend, the one with the is300, were out there was probably one of the better days for racing.

Keep it up with what you're doing for the 2.0 60ft. Raise the shift points to 6000rpm and i'm sure the et will fall and mph will rise. Since it sounds like you're hooking i'd NLS on the 1-2 also.

What was the weather conditions like on your pass? Corrected DA has a role in timeslips too.

Shift around 6k, even with the GMS1. That's where I shift and I have the GMS1. I tried 5500 first time out and trapped about 105 too, if I remember right. Now I'm trapping 108 (best). I need to know how to get that 2.0 60' though.

Yeah.. top fuel. Yes.. that day was awsome. Nice to meet your friend. I'd already thought about that. Midnights are out of the question. I'd run into the cobras then.. and im not yet ready. Once i get the process as a whole down. It will be more competetive. High 12's should be my best. Low 13's consistantly. You going to import vs domestic in Bethany next sunday?

Yeah.. I was thinking the same. I don't know about taking it to red line.. I does start to feel spongy after 6000 since the stage kit increases the rev limiter. I will sure try 6k though. I think it will be more apt for better times next go round.

Good tires for 60'.

I shift at about 5800 because after that I can feel the power drop off, though less now that I have a downpipe. Nice 60' time!

while 2.0 60 foot is very good, you say you have very good tires. what kind do you have?
why are you launching so easy? (as you say leaving from a stoplight). you need to be leaving as high as the tires will hold. are you holding traction all through first WOT? does stage 1 raise the rev limiter? if not i'd shift at 6100. i'm not trying to be a dick, but i have drag raced for many years. if you want a good time, you can not be easy on the car.
there is some truth to the statement "drive it like you stole it". LOL.

Slicks up front and i launched at 4500 for the final pass, but 3rd didn't go in. I dont lose traction, but im worried that the 1-2 NLS will be the straw that broke so to speak. I'll end up doing it, but was just hesitant my first time.

The rolling resistance from slicks will hurt the mph compared to a radial tire. I don't run them on the cobalt but my mustang will drop 1-1.5mph vs a drag radial tire.

While I would be hesitant to NLS the 1-2 also keep in mind slicks have alot more give and can absorb the drivetrain shock. Even so I dont know if i would do it lol

slicks and only a 2.0 I went 2.1 with the stock cont's I would think slicks would get you a 1.8-1.6

If I was you I would buy a downpipe and shift at 6100 I bet you get a low 13,

Also you a new car if it breaks they fix it for free

Yeah.. i was hoping for at least a 1.9 60'. I just need to get used to the car as a whole at the track again. Shift points will make a huge improvement im sure. I only had 2 good passes and didn't do any at over 5500 RPM shifts. I'm thinking it will be a quicker run shifting later. Will hopefully find out soon. Yeah.. i made a 13.9 with stock tires and no GMS1. That's why i was so worked up. Will improve.

even if you cut a 2.1 on the stock contis, you still aren't getting out of the hole like he is on his slicks only cutting a 2.0. He can hit 2nd a lot harder than you can on some crappy street tires.

Don't worry guys about NLS from 1-2, piece of cake and if you want to cut the best times we're going to have to do that.

Just went for a WOT run. Clear Hwy. 2-3 up to 6000 RPM. Pulled way stronger than stock. Can you tell i've not had much time since the stage kit for recreational driving? lol.. 24hr shifts at the station and laying carpet on my days off keeps a person busy. But have to support my habbits some how. Saving up for either the ZZP kit for this in a few years or build a full out drag car. Not sure what i want more.

you bought those slicks from cmiller didn't you? me and him race at the same track.
i was thinking about buying them. LOL. what was your 60 on the 4500 launch?
i might not NLS from 1-2 in your car. not on a regular basis at least. i don't in mine. it just seems REALLY rough on the car. i'm jealous of your "slicks" purchase. norwalk was not open yet, so i went to a different dragstrip. on the stock conti's, i did not matter how i launched (low, lower, idle, LOL) it just burned all the way through first and about 1/4 through second. it ran a best of 13.65@109. i do nls 2-3. i went through the traps in 3rd at 6700.

Awsome news! Yes, i bought them from cmiller. Very nice guy! I dont have the slip with the 4500 launch.. Will try and go back either this or the next weekend. I didn't have but the 2 good 1/4. The ones i was easy on it. Not launching and just took off as you normally would. Learned alot about preloading and tire pressure. So with my virgin flight out of the way and having a few dreams of how things should have gone.. next time should show some better times. I was so happy when i bout had my head snapped off, but was humbled YET again with the car not going into to 3rd during a NLS. It's a 50/50 for it to work. So, the next pass i will launch at 4500 shift at 6000 without NLS and see if i can get some better times. As i should..lol.. as the days go by.. i get a little more excited and upset that i didn't post a better time. I'm my own worse enemy.

Are you tuned similar to cmiller?

yeah cmiller is a good guy. always willing to help out. last i knew, he was trifecta tuned.
i heard he bought hp tuners recently. that is what i have. i have been working with BYT
on the tunes. not sure who miller is working hand in hand with. BYT, Term. and Iam
Broke are all good guys. i will see what miller is doing in a few weeks. (that is when our
track opens). i know what you mean about being rough on yourself, i really wanted
13.40's at that track. i am hoping for 13.20's at norwalk. (will probably get my 13.40's
there, LOL!). at least you got good tires!! ha-ha! -skip.
