Went to the track yesterday night!

Hey Guys,

For the first time in my life as well as the first time of my life with the cobalt. Here are my times. It was tough to adjust in the beginning cause I didn't even know the procedure of how to advance to the lights and how to time the lights. Also, I had a full tank of gas and kept my tire pressure at 35 psi. (I know a lot of people bring it down to 25 psi) I'll try one day.

#1 vs. Honda Civic Hatchback (He ran 14.782)

R/T .458
I1 2.802
I3 10.022
E.T. 15.016
M.P.H 100.762

#2 vs. Golf (He ran 20.635)

R/T .012
I1
I3 10.14
E.T. 15.156
M.P.H 101.861

#3 vs. Mazda Precidia (He ran 14.098)

R/T .339
I1
I3 9.495
E.T. 14.431
M.P.H. 102.89

#4 vs. Mustang GT (He ran 14.714)

R/T .453
I1
I3 9.588
E.T. 14.651
M.P.H. 100.791

#5 vs. Cobalt SS/SC 07 Stock (He ran 15.312)

R/T .636
I1 2.461
I3 9.671
E.T. 14.683
M.P.H. 100.053

I know my R/T sucks but I need to get used to the timing. I also had a hard time shifting in 3rd a couple times. So what do you guys think for the 1st time of my life? Any suggestions?

my first time i ran on an 1/8 mile track and I ran a 9.7 which equates to about a 15.1. what did you do different from your 15.1 to your 14.6.

It's a wide spread of times but i'm happy with the results cause it was my 1st experience. I'm sure I can be consistent in the low 14's once I get the hang of it, maybe even break the 13's.

As I said, the main things for me right now are the R/T and putting it in 3rd gear before I reach the cut-off of 2nd. There's plenty of room for improvement. I'll also go with an almost empty tank and lower my tire pressure. My goal would be to be in the very high 13's, if possible.

I'm sure an Injen intake and gmpp exhaust would help too but I'm happy with the car the way it is now.

Yeah I was confused the first two runs cause i didn't even know how the lights worked. It was a fun experience. My friends wants to go tuesday but he only has a Scion XB. It's so slow and I find it funny looking.

Also, the conditions were about 12 degrees celsius (53.5 F), I'm sure that's not the greatest at the track.

The guy at the track told me to get the best reaction time go on the third yellow. When I did I got .095.

Your R/T doesn't affect the other times though I still only managed a 2.316 60'. I had an R/T of .848 w/ a 2.32 60'.

What kind of 60's were you getting??

The 60' times, i didn't know that they ommitted the R/T's. (It shows I'm new to this)

Here are my 60' times:

Run #1 - 2.802
Run #2 - I don't get it in the right lane for some reason??
Run #3 - I don't get it in the right lane for some reason??
Run #4 - I don't get it in the right lane for some reason??
Run #5 - 2.461

I heard that 2.2-2/3 is a good 60' time. Maybe I was giving it a bit too much gas in 1st. I know that it's recommended to start at 2000 rpm. I guess you got to really not push it too much in 1st. The other thing that may not have helped was my 35 psi tire pressure and the fact that i didn't do any burnouts at all. I drove around the water!!

I think, that's what you need to do, is take off on the last yellow. Basically drop the clutch on the last yellow. Then i'm sure you can get some sick reaction times. I'll have to try it. I should be going back tomorrow night, that is, if the weather's good.

Those arent bad times. The first time I went, and sometimes I still do, dont worry about the R/Ts. You can worry about that down the road. Mine are still around 1.1-1.5 seconds. Get up there, dont let other cars next to you freak you out or having to leave on the green mess with your head. Get up there, wait a second, and then go. Trust me, no one will get mad or yell at you, they understand, its not like your bracket racing.

Also, like you said, your tire pressure was high, drop that to around 25-22 PSI, make sure after a couple of runs you drop it again, because it will expand back up. Also, bring the rears up to around 40-45 to help transfer the weight to the front. They should have free air there, just ask somebody.
And have fun, dont race other people, just race yourself to get better times.

The other night, I went up for about 2 hours and got 11 runs in. It started out well running 13.6's, but only went downhill. However, everytime I got up, I managed to get stuck against someone who was bracket racing with a 10 second car, or a 11-12 second car that would hook like crazy. Lol
