Wheel/Tire combo for drag racing
Wheel/Tire combo for drag racing
What are you guys, that go to the strip pretty often, using for tires? Ive run my SS/TC probably a total of 15 times on stock Conti's. I was recently invited to be on a team for a charity bracket racing event. Its a month from now, and I havent decided if Im gonna be ready to bring the Vette yet or not. If not, Im going to bring the Balt. However, I want to put some rubber on the front that will get me out of the hole better.
Im not looking to buy a set of 4 tires, so I was considering getting a pair of slicks and a pair of front wheels that will fit over the stock SS/TC brembos. Im a little concerned with the slicks on stock axles, although Im only GMS1 so Im not making crazy power....
What Im wondering is what are some other options out there if I dont go with slicks? Is there a good drag radial to use? How about Nitto's?
If you could, just list what your using, and whether or not you are using stock wheels.
Thanks!

if you want something to switch on just for that day and maybe if you have an extra set of 18s

better than a drag radial. a drag radial with its stiffer sidewall is actually more prone to wheel hop and axle breaking. slicks will wrinkle slightly and absorb the vibrations/hop/wheelshake that would otherwise go through your axles.
he was running 17s i think but yes before he switched to 15s it was these. if you want to run them on the stock tcs a 25/7/18 would work. or if you had a 17 you could do the 26/7/17
i would suggest finding a 17 if you can. cause its a 1" taller tire on a 1" smaller wheel. thats a full inch gained of side wall height

BFG work ok but dont run around boosting on the street or they will tear up fast.... I mean real fast, like melting butter fast. If you only use them at the track after heating them up they will last a while. running the bfgs at 18 pounds I busted a 1.89 60" but then while working out the kinks on my E85 tune I completely trashed them on the street in about dozen good floggings.
I going back to Hoosiers for Drag radial. I have cut a 1.75 all day in a front wheel a FWD car. I bought some 17x8 5Zigen fn01rc and had them redrilled 17 lbs and decent tire choices....
To keep from wheel hopping even with tranny mounts I roll through the water by about 2 feet and then yank the ebrake and dump the clutch. When I see tire smoke I let out and line up...No hop at all that way.

borgat wheels will grind you out a pair of rims to fit over anything. so you could run 15's with the brembos but you will pay the price for it, and i dont know how soon they could have them ready for you. oh btw they are 8lbs wheels
@ 1LOWLS: i run a 2.0 60ft on my hankook rs-2's, and i havent heard of anyone running lower with DR's yet, so to me drag radials are pointless.
I'm about to get some slicks but im still debating on a 24.5 or 26 tall tires.

i really dont thing 15's would ever fit over brembo's period..the brake rotor is 12.5" and the brake caliper sticks out a good inch/inch and a half...that would be epic to see 15's over brembos lol

Im tellin you man, they made me take like 30 different measurements, they can make anything fit, and fit right.

CCW swears after seeing the measurements that a 16 will fit for sure. But your looking at 700 per wheel to your door probably. To much for me.....
it would be interesting to see if they could pul it off. some one with a turbo call them up and send your measurements in to see if they can make it fit around the caliper.
