Where do I purchase a helmet for drag racing?

you cannot legally use a motorcycle helmet. you may get by tech. but if something happens and youre injured. the track insurance will look at it and say well he was wearing a helmet not intented for this use. he is not covered.
motorcycle helmets are rated different than automotive helmets. a motorcyle helmet is not fire retardent. because when you crash a bike you are 99.9% of the time thrown from it. not the case when you are in a car accident. you remain the the vehicle and there is always a chance of a fire. automotive helmets=fire retardent. motorcycle helmets are not. so like i said even though you may get past tech. good luck if something may happen to you.
theyre relatively the same price anyways so spend the money and get the right one.

theres a large selection there, and most of the companies also list the measurements vs size of their helemts. it generally DOES vary from company to company

I live in Ann Arbor, MI and am thinking about going to Milan Dragway and Lapeer dragway, so it sounds like something like this is NOT acceptable? http://www.soloperformance.com/HJC-C...met_p_308.html
or is it? I'm looking to learn, thanks for the information guys, whats snell and the designation sa2000 mean? Whats significant about it? Do you guys recommend wearing some sort of neck brace or collar?
versus this: http://www.soloperformance.com/Bell-...et_p_1336.html

Look into this before you make a decision because there is some contraversy. Basically the snell test favors very rigid helmets, which aren't necessarily the safest as they transfer all the energy to ur melon. Ur helmet shouldn't be brick stiff, it needs crumple zones like cars have.
So Snell's next new certification, may be very different than all those before it. They are sayin that all previous certifications will no longer be allowed in many forms of racing due to the difference in design intent.
If it happens, you'll want a SA2011 (or wahtever year they do it) and not a SA2008.
make sense?

yes that makes sense, I emailed the local track I want to drag at and I inquired in my local autocross group as to what they require/recommend helmet wise, I didn't realize how much a helmet would cost.
What about neck collars, are they necessary or beneficial?

their track insurance? where do you race at? i've raced at many, many dragstrips in my life and the first thing that you do when barely inside the gates is sign a waiver releasing

"Technically" the law says you can't sign or waive away anything that hasn't happened yet.
Just an interesting thing most people don't realise.
Waivers are meant to make you realise you could get hurt and scare you away from legal action if you do.
But, either way, a respectful adult person takes responsibilty for their actions anyway because thats the right thing to do.

Food for thought:

yeah i was gonna ask... are you sure you even run quick enough to require a helmet? dont bash this is a serious question.. have you been kicked off/yelled at by an official at the track for running to fast with no helmet? or is this i think my car can run 13.xx or 12.xx and ill have to have a helmet if im gonna run my car.. cause honestly unless you know your running fast enough to require a helmet what's the point of owning one...?
