Who wants to kick some mustang ass??
I'm going to be going to the Memphis 1/4 mile track this summer with a few buddies.. Some Mustang GT's (Yes.. GT's are slow) are going to be there.. Who all wants to go and kick some serious Mustang ass and show them who runs this ****?
Just let me know in this thread or pm me and i'll keep you up to date as it gets closer to time to go. No date scheduled, still working out details.. but i'd like to see some Cobalts out there and show no mercy to the rustang GT's
Couple examples of how it'll go:
Us -->
<-- Mustangs
And one more, in case you need another hint..
Mustangs -->
<-- Us
Now let's go kick some mustang ass!

well.. they're all mainly 94-04.. the SN95 (94-98) and "New Edge" (99-04) as my friends call them.. I hear the 96-98's are pushovers, but some 94-95's can be fast since they're the 5.0's still.. and the 99-04's are still slow, but are more around our area..
The 1994-1998 Mustang GT 5.0/4.6 is a high 14 second car at best with a manual transmission.
The 1999-2004 Mustang GT 4.6 is a low to mid 14 second car. Some will argue that they are faster but that is a 1 in 100 situation in stock form.

"Win some, lose some" would be a better, more realistic plan.
I go twice a year with SuperStallions.net to Cecil County and race. thats where I ran my 14.5, and where I plan on running my 13.** this year.
It's april 9 or 23 and then again in November. I already bought my ticket in hopes to kick some GT ass while i am there.

However, the 99-04 GT models with a manual are slightly faster than an SS S/C, by a few tenths in both 0-60 and the 1/4 mile. The automatic ones are slightly slower than an SS S/C, and should be an easy kill for a good driver
well i own a 01 gt vert manual and this guy I know who drives a 05balt SS manual raced for a franklin.from a roll and the 1/4 mile had him beat by about 4 cars 30-130 and the track my time was 13.9@100.54 to his 14.8@95.45.The cobalts are pretty quick for a 4 bangerbut there not as quick as a 99-04 GT.throw a supercharger on a 99-04 4.6 and it will eat a cobalt for lunch.since I raced him ive added a p-1 procharger and im running 12.7@110 mph.mine was stock at the time we raced.

wouldnt matter right now anyway, Im done at the strip for a while until I get some rear end issues figured out. Think I F'd up my pinion angle while installing my LCA's. Im getting drivetrain vibes at speeds I shouldnt be.

cobalts
right on.another friend of mine has a 02 trans-am firehawk with a p-1 procharger,heads,cams,373 gears,forged block, the list goes on that ls1 is faster than my 04 cbr 600 RR.His times were like 10.8 @135 mph.I do like the cobalts however I was looking at buying one but i like the rumble a v-8 offers.plus there's a ton of aftermarket parts for the mustang.I know this is a cobalt forum so i ll stop talking about fords. But come on we all know the cobalt wont "kill" a mustang"= to a 96-98 gt sure, but they only had 215 or 230 hp at the crank.not much for a v-8 that weighed in at 3400 lbs.99-04 forget about it.I have to give chevy credit for making a fun to drive 4 cylinder that deliver's that much power
Mustangs can be slow in stock form......espessically when compared to something actually fast. As others mentioned, good luck finding a stock Mustang.....even the V6s get modified.
To those who say.....if my Mustang was supercharged, it would KILL a Cobalt.....well, it would. However, you could also supercharge a LS1 and it would KILL a Mustang.
My girlfriend owns a 1997 Cobra.....it does alright. Haven't ran it at the track yet, but I would like to think I could get a 13.7 @ 100+ mph or so out of it.
I don't like starting grude matches like this......because it comes down to what you are used to and what you compare it too. Everyone that runs a 10 or quicker thinks we should all shut the hell up and park our grocery getters so they can use the track. And the guys that are in Top Fuel think the guys that run 10s are samll timers and should park their Sunday driver.

Why do so many people get caught up in STOCK numbers? Wish I knew.

99-04 GT: 260hp/281cid = .925 hp/cid x 346cid (LS1) = 320hp. A N/A mustang with 320 hp is capable 12s easy. I can show you a time slip of one with 292hp running a 12.79, with DR's of course. But in this theoretical race, I'd give the LS1 DR's too and still bet on the Mustang.
I know, Ford doesnt make a 346, but I like to bring up that interesting point. With only 281cid, they put out very close hp/cid as the LS1. .925 to .939.

I dont know how Cobras got involved but those are fast, and mustangs in general are not in the Cobalts class there is no comparison. So every now and then you run in to an old guy on the street in his Mustang and you show him who's boss, most guys that bring their Mustangs to the track have some added power under the hood and know how to drive them.
