13,900 miles and clutch is almost completely shot

I have a stock 2009 LAP. My car started minor jerking in 5th about a week ago. I then started shifting at 3k and would wait till 55mph to go into 5th to try to help this.

This worked somewhat. So driving around in 5th (not sure of rpm's) it would start to jerk, so i would downshift to 4th(3k rpm) and it would keep jerking.

Today on my way to class, i was coming to a stop (clutch to floor, and <5mph), put it in 1st and my car nearly stalled.

*Service rep said that clutch only has 7500mile warranty.
*I have an app. with my dealer to get my clutch checked out monday night.
*NOT PAYING $1000 FOR NEW STOCK CLUTCH.
*I may be able to get free labor either there (in regards to the issue of why my clutch is gone so early) or I can have a shop do it for next to $0. I just don't have the time to replace it myself.
*If it comes down to me being forced to buy a new clutch, I would like to pick up a Spec stage 2+ because I will eventually go FI and I've heard many great things about them.

Who has the cheapest price on them?
TTR has them on sale but they do not mention the "+" and Why does stage 2 cost more than stage 3?

Any and all opinions welcome. Sorry for another "my clutch is shot" thread, but I have a LAP and all the ones I see are SS's.

doesn't really sound like your clutch...if it was your RPMs would redline and you wouldn't go anywhere. Go 55, put it in 5th, floor it. If your RPMs go to the redline and you don't go anywhere, then your clutch may be going out.

ok so i tried that last night and today, but the RPM's stayed the same and i could tell the engine was strugling. What else could cause the jurking?

well then it's not your clutch. 5th gear at WOT is putting tremendous strain on the clutch, and if it didn't slip then, it's still good. I'm leaning towards the driver mod here, try releasing the clutch slower. It takes a lot of time to find the sweet spot to prevent jerking.

my 2.2 doesnt have that much power. All of the jurking occurs while in gear, not during the shifting process

are you in too high a gear for your speed? what gear, speed, and rpms does this happen at. when you were coming to a stop and it almost stalled, what gear where you in?

not sure the rpm but mostly in 5th at 47-55mph. Haven't been on the highway in a while. But sometimes in 4th at 50mph and 3k rpm's.

when it almost stalled, i released the clutch and put it in 1st without reengaging the clutch. As I came to a complete stop the rpm's went under 400 and then came back up.

That whole dying with the car outta gear and/or clutch in means its something to do with the motor not your transmission/clutch.

Whens the last time you did regular maintainance on the car? (oil change, air filter)

Oil and air filter are good. Almost stalling hasn't happened in a while. Still stock 22k miles

Actually my car also does this, usually when i let off the gas and coast

I'm an automatic so its not related to your clutch, my 09 LS does it

it usually happens in 3rd gear for me is when i might notice it, but 14k miles and i barely feel it if ever. i cannot reproduce it on demand as it happens like once a week

edit: this is in reference to the "jerking" if you can call it that. it almost feels like an older car spuddering

If you're hitting the gas in 5th at 43 your only at like 2k rpm. Its a 2.2 You're not gonna go anywhere. Downshift to 2nd if you want to get moving. I too am leaning towards a lack of driver mod.

I should have said it earlier. I was checking for slippage.

Exactly what i was gunna say, 5th gear at 43mph is way less than 2k rpm, its probably like 1300. I know in my ss i try to stay above 1400 as anything below is lugging, and if im below 2k im maintaining speed, if I mash even I dont get anywhere quick that way if I dont downshift.

The jerking is drivetrain lash it sounds like, just a design from chevy. That happens to me in first and second when i let off the gas rolling thro say a parking lot or something, but i thought that problem was related to the boost, wasnt aware it could happen to N/a.

If your cruisin at 3k rpm your way to high, and if your in 5th doing 43 your way to low. I dont know what the gearing is on the 2.2 ive never driven on, but they probably arent to different. For me 40mph is the sweet spot for gas in 4th gear and that puts me right at 2k rpms. If im trying to pull from a higher gear i try to do it above 2200 rpms cuz that when max tq quicks

Try to stay around 2k-2200 rpm for best cruising i would imagine. O and NO MATTER what car it is, if your in its final gear and your mashing the gas your really not getting anywhere fast in terms of acceleration. Its the overdrive meant for efficiency and it pulls real slow.
