1st-2nd gear Probs
1st-2nd gear Probs
I am a newb, my 09 SS/TC is my first manual. Whatever blah blah
My newb question is as follows;
Whenever I am going from 1st gear into 2nd gear, it always hits hard due to the RPM drop.
For example. When I am getting on it a little bit and take 1st gear up to around 5k RPMs then hit 2nd quickly, the Tach goes from 5K rpms and drops/hits hard way down to around 2k ( naturally of course). What can I do to prevent this?
My buddy said that I have to be quicker in giving it more gas, but I even hear it doing this in normal driving when I take 1st up to around 2500-3000 RPMs. Its like, if I don't hold the clutch pedal in for a second to let the RPMs drop down a bit, it hits and sounds awful, and the card shudders.
I hope I explained the problem specifically enough. Thanks in advance for the help. Loving the car so far, having a blast learning a new skill ( manuals are sweeet!)

just don't shift so hard, it sounds like your are slamming in the clutch and then just dumping it in every gear, during normal driving, which is unnecessary. the clutch grabs hard, and puts a lot of stress on your transmission and motor. just let the clutch out smoothly and give the engine ans tranny time to match speeds, you should be fine after that.
basically try to keep track of where it changes. you can very smoothly and easily dump the clutch and have the car shift buttery smooth. the point is to get the rpms where they need to be. on an upshift, you do that by waiting for the rpms to drop. on a downshift, you rev match by hitting the throttle to raise the rpms.
what you're buddy is telling you to do is burn your clutch. yes, it will be a smoother shift, but it's not good.
