2008 Cobalt Automatic Transmission Issue

Hello everyone and thanks in advance for any help on this issue.

I am trying to troubleshoot potential transmission problems on my sister's 2008 Cobalt.

The problem is that the car is going into high RPM's (around 4,000) before shifting into 4th gear. The car shifts perfectly in lower gears, and the problem is only when shifting into 4th gear.

Does anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this?

Thanks!

Pete

Does it do it all the time or only when the engine is still cold?

Thank you for your reply.

It seems to be doing it all the time. The only time I drove it was after she drove over to my house and told me about the problem. I then drove the car while the engine was warm and the problem occurred.

I let her take one of my vehicles back home with her to not cause any further problems.

could be a damaged seal on a clutch piston, might be a broken accumulator piston. its hard to say. generally flaring shifts arent something simple to fix. i would recommend finding a reputable transmission shop in your area and have them look at it.

Does the car go anywhere?

You sure its not 4th and just not overdrive yet?

Sometimes if i pound on mine it will stick in 4th and rev up like its slipping and then 2 secs later it will go to 3rd and be fine.
