2nd Gear???

Well I was pulling out of Walmart today and went to shift into 2nd. It did its normal engage thing then jumped back out, I figured well it must not have been completely engaged right? So at the next light I grabbed the shifter and pulled back and held it firmly into 2nd, it popped back out and made the grinding gears sound. So for the rest of my drive home, no 2nd gear. It works for decelerating but not accelerating. I'm guessing it just cut the acceleration side of the gear to where it will still grab for decelerating, like a saw blade. Guess tomorrow I will be trying to get it under warranty.

On a side note my e-brake broke on Friday too, the spring that pushes the button back out so that it locks must have broken or something. So I took the brick handle off and now have to lock it by pushing on the part that actually grabs the e-brake teeth.

Interesting how this all happened around 25k miles....

HAHAHAHAHA

Sounds like it's becoming a common problem...I laugh cuz the same happened to me...GM Covered it...they replaced the 2nd Gear gearset/synchros, and a plastic piece that broke off the shift fork. They also replaced my clutch cuz it was half worn at 5609mi

Yep same here but it was with my 3rd gear. Seems like its becoming quite a widespread problem.

They ended up replacing most of the synchros, I'll post up the list when I get it out of my car.

Dude I did the same thing in my 03 Cavy, how hard did you hit 2nd before you noticed it...cause you totally pusted 2nd gear in half and ripped out the gear syncros. I had mine fixed by warranty but it was like $4300 if it wouldn't have been so good luck.... oh yea ask for the broken gear I put mine on a hemp necklace and have it around my neck as a symbol of blowing the doors of a type r integra when I did it!

Can those who've had this problem please let me know what all was changed when you took it to the dealer. I'm having exactly the same problems and dealer tried saying my twm shifter streched the shift cables and thats whats causing it. Although i addimatly told him that the TWM has been fine for 15k miles and that many others have had the exact same problems and it was the shift forks/syncros. He said he'd talk to the tech and call me back which hasn't happend yet so hopefully they descoverd i was correct and started taking out the trans to check it out.

Mine just started popping in and out of second and fourth last week I don't know what to do I'm pissed. My first thought was the syncros but I don't know. Please keep me updated on what is going on with your cars.

Not really 2nd started grinding more often really only thing i noticed. I'm still fighting with the dealer on this. Its my uncles dealership but i'm trying no to pull that string and take care of it on my own and showing them they can't try and rip people off.

They look at it and first claim my TWM shifter streched the cables and that was causing it not to stay in 2nd. Also saying they want to replace the TWM with a stock shifter ,saying it will only happen again over time , and have me pay for everything including the rental. I say i don't think thats the problem but go ahead and install the cable to see if it fixes. Nope doesn't work, like I told them. They call back say they want to install the stock shifter i say sure but i don't think thats the problem. They then say if they put the stock shifter on even though it may or may not fix the problem i will still have to pay for the stock shifter ,$225. And they insisted on doing this before looking further into the tranny. I say i shouldn't have to pay for that he disagrees and says thats what GM's instructions were to do. I said we'll discuss that later just see if it fixes it as anymore just want to get the thing fixed.

Sorry for the long storry but just letting know how my dealer experience has been so far.
