5 Speed Auto and SS 2.4

Is there any indication that it will have a 5 speed auto? The Saturn Sky has the same engine and has a 5 speed auto acorrding to motor trend. I think this would be pretty cool. The regular auto from the coupe does not have very sporty ratios. Thanks for any input.

The Saturn Sky (like the Pontiac Solstice) is built on GM's Kappa rear wheel drive architecture. So we won't be seeing any help from there.

Apparently GM is working with Ford to develop a 5 or 6 speed FWD auto, but even if it came out on time I doubt we'd see it in the first year of the N/A Cobalt SS, it would probably filter down the midsize cars first.

Silly me. I forgot the sky was rear wheel drive. Oh well. At least I hope they change the final drive for the SS auto.

I bet the 4 speed auto will be around a few more years on the delta chassis. The ION had a 5 speed atuomatic but it was dropped and replaced witht he 4 speed unit.

Must have had some problems with it. I wonder if the upcoming 6 speed is compact enough to fit.

The final drive in the auto is 3.63:1--not bad at all. Although for reference the 2.4L Twincam automatic had 3.91s. But the 2.4L will have good power down low so steep gears are probably not needed.

anyway from what i heard its supposed to be for larger cars, grand prix, five hundred etc.

I think i'd settle for a 6 spd stick in the cobalt

Well, GM already uses 5-speed transmissions in some vehicles, like the Equinox. The Corvette has a 6-speed auto with paddleshifters now. I heard that the Impala, Montecarlo, and Grand Prix will get a six speed auto in 2007 or 2008, but we will se if this holds true. I would imagine the next generation ones will at least have s 5-speed. They already should!
