Anybody Break their axles?

Hey guys,

I know its can happen, but was curious to see how many guys have broken their axles. I assume it happened at the launch of a drag race.

Post up if you did, and what kind of tires you were running.

If you read this and you drag race lots w/out upgraded axles, post if your are using d/rs or not.

Thanks
Nate

broke both of mine in one shot on stock tires. Was rolling through the water box at Atco in NJ (can't go around box) tapped the gas to dry the tires, car made it about a foot, than bam.... free revving and a long ass wait for a tow truck..... 20 hours later I made it home.

First time at the track on the first run! BAM snapped the driver's side axle right at about the 60FT mark!

My mods are below, I'm on stock axles. I've got MT ET Street Drag Radials, 26x10.50r16. I've got a Exedy clutch and transmission mounts. I've had probably 30 passes at the track on them and so far, so good. lol

NO LSD btw

Damn!! Those are some scary pics. I haven't brokend anything at the track yet (even in s/ced cavy), but that has got to suck, and $$.

I took the stage 2 axles out of the cobalt, and was thinking of taking her to the track (buyer fell through), but what would the odds be that they break.

Although, I do have cabs, and all the mounts/braces. She doesn't get any wheel hop.

dang thats crazy how you have yet to break an axle. with all those upgrades in your sig, i figured you would have shattered the axles. anybody know what our stock axles are rated at????

People have told me that for over a year and still going strong. I just don't fight through wheel hop. if the wheels start to bounce I let off. Also, I realy feel the solid mounts allow the car to spin but not bounce so much. the bouncing is what kills people. Also, I think the Hoosier drag radials everyone likes are almost too much tire. I've seen them in person and they are huge. My tires are only about 7.5" wide nd they have a tread pattern so they don't quite bit as hard. The next tires I get will be slicks from M&H that are 6.5" wide.

Just watched your vid. It didn't even look like/sound like you had much wheel hop and BAM.

Did you upgrade your axles after that?

ive broken 2 driver side axles. on the burnout because i was dumping it too high. i now roll into them... i also have probably a total of over 200 passes. the 1st set lasted me a good 95% of those, and then i spit two out in a month. one on dr's, and one on streets

26K on stock axles and clutch, with many races on the street, and 2 passes down the track at atco. My 60' was horrible cause of me taking it somewhat easy, but so far so good.

yeah im on my 3rd set of axles.. broke the factory one right at the launch on the green light.. and then another one around the corner from my house.. the first time they covered it under warranty and the 2nd time i got fcuked... both times were driver side... the only reason SS/SC's are breakin axles left and right are the ones with G85 the lsd and recaro package.. seat Kick ass.. but lsd. sucks... what kinda tires should i go with on the stock 18" rims?

The only ones breaking axels are those that can't drive
