Auto to Manual

I know its been asked a million times but I was hoping to get a more in depth answer on it. I got an 07 LT 2.2 auto wanting to make it a 5 speed. Now I know its more involved than just swapping the trans but does anyone know EVERYTHING you would need?

I'm not new here bud..and yes I could've searched, however I've been on here for years and every thread I've seen is the same ****. "It'd be cheaper to go buy a manual car" Well my car is paid off, I like my car, and i like a project so I was hoping to get more of a specific answer, and I have trouble believing it'd be cheaper to go buy another car than to collect items needed used as a good deal comes along.

You can be the first then and I welcome the innovation, the point is though that it's not easy at all, if it's your daily I highly doubt this is possible.

Since it hasn't been done to my knowledge you're pretty much on your own, there are other forums that often do swaps such as the Cavy forums but they didn't have nearly the electronics to contend with either.

I also had, and searched the same question. And all the responses are the same. I have always had older muscle where a swap like this was really not too much trouble. I find it weird that it would be cheaper to just buy a manual car. Easier, yes. But cheaper? Is there really thatuch difference between one with auto and manual? Aside from mounts and computer?

Back when I had my SS/NA I always wanted to do this. My friend with a 03 civic did a swap. It was a pain in the ass and he had to get parts off of totalled cars. New wiring harness, ecu, and other electronics. Some things are still goofy like his gauges have the p/r/n /d/1/L on them still and some extra plugs.

But it was doable. Took him months of downtime and the car was out of service the whole time. The cobalt looked MUCH more difficult

Donor car would be best.

Subframe
Mounts
Trans
Shifter, cables, clutch pedal, master cylinder
Wire Harness
Axles

Might be missing a couple things.

I second a donor car as well as a beater to get around. You could get the swap done, but the electronic side is where you'll have the headache.

1. Buy a cobalt with a blown motor
2. Swap all the things
3. ??????
4. Profit!

But seriously though to make sure you got it all done completely you need transmission, drive axles, intermediate shaft, transmission mounts, full wiring harness, possibly a new BCM and ECU, the center console trim piece and probably more than that.

Mason's car is up for sale, $11k gets you a bolted and tuned LNF. http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/4082251379.html

The Cobalt is more intensive than earlier GM car.

I did 5+ auto to manual swaps on a Saturn S-series. But the PCM was a simple swap, the subframes were the same, and every single saturn s-series built had provisions for manual or automatic in the firewall. Those swaps took about 8 hours.

I would have just assumed that sub frames would be the same. Figured ecu and axles mounts etc would need changing. I'm gonna put this idea to rest I think. I'll just look for a manual and give my auto to my wife.

Thanks guys

Need a clutch pedal assembly too, unsure what else under the dash you'll need to change.

Maven stated it was about 40 hours of work with a lift and all the right tools, plus a donor car.
