axle movement

When on a hoist the other day one of my axle can move in and out and the other one doesnt is this normal? by in and out I mean the center shaft between the inner and outer cvs moves toward the hub or toward the transmission.

I'm gonna guess no, sounds like problems in the making to me. they should be tight and not moving. worn bearings in the cv shafts maybe.

Its completely normal for the axles to move in and out like that, even if it feels significant. This is necessary by the design of the CV axle itself.

Not sure why the one side has no movement, perhaps you were trying to move it from an awkward angle.
