Post Being a pioneer again: info

finally got around to taking some pictures. i got the charge piping back together last weekend and got around to taking pictures of the brakes today.

as many of you know i have an lsj. but i want to run 13x9 wheels in the front for more sidewall on the slicks. but i also wanted to run lnf axles. so the setup consists of lnf axles, lnf hubs, lnf knuckles, lsj control arms, ls calipers, ls rotors.

everything would bolt up just fine if i were running lsj rotors. but because the ls rotors and hubs are so much smaller some machining had to be done to get them to fit on the lnf hubs.

i got some lnf hubs redrilled to 5x4.5 with arp studs and R1concepts hooked me up with an amazing pair of premium slotted ls 10.08" rotors redrilled from 4x100 to 5x4.5. NOTE: you can only drill 4 and 5 bolt on rotors, NOT hubs, if you drill hubs that way you will have two overlapping holes as seen below and that stud will need to be welded. it can work yes but i would never drive it.

now the ls rotors have a 57.1mm center bore for the centric ring. and the lnf hubs have a 65.1mm ring. it will not fit and needs to be machined out on the lathe.

rechamfered

so now the ring will fit but the hub itself won't. the lnf hub diameter is 5.400" and the inner casting of the rotor is 5.390". now this is approximate though because it's a casting. but either way, in order for the lnf hub to fit it needs to be milled out to 5.420".

so now the hub will be able to slide all the way in.

it's hard to get a good picture of just how close the clearance is between the rotor hat and the hub.

so i went ahead and test fit everything together and voila. LNF/LSJ/LS all on the same car. again though it's hard to capture in a picture just how well everything fits.

So the inside of the hat did need to be milled out some too in order to get the hub to seat correctly on the rotors. I wish I had had this when I did my swap then I would have just had everything bored out like you did. It looks awesome by the way! Do you notice a big difference in breaking power though with the smaller setup? or did you always have the LS setup and decide to swap to the 4.5 inch lug pattern?

i haven't driven on it yet. but i can't imagine it being any different. maybe if you road race or autox the car you may notice something. but every day driving is going to be no different.

i'm going from a stock lsj setup with dss level 2s to this frankenbrake setup.

ex you need to space the hub out with a spacer between hub and knuckle so the caliper bracket/caliper centers on the hub/ the dimension you need from the outside face of the knuckle where the caliper bolts up, to the outer flange of the hub should be 55 mm + or - a tenth or so. text me i send you a picture how I take the measurement. at the moment it is inset I am guessing by 2- 3 mm or so...u have my cell so text me. I got the spacers as well lol

Only difference I noticed when I went from ls to lsj brakes was how much faster you stopped when braking hard, never measured stopping distance difference. Def grabbed harder, but like you said normal driving shouldn't be an issue

dont have to measure, I can send you the spacers along with the mounts lol. I just finished a set of pgraded knuckles and hubs for a customer, and I happen to use the LS knuckle bearing combo for reference number....for every thing using a sliding caliper....Brembo is slightly different, which is why we make CED the spacers for that upgrade set up...

just decided to use a 90* straight edge. i can't say it's 100% accurate. but it's about ~54mm/54.5mm

so you need a spacer. you can put in the stock painted metal LNF spacer that belongs there, may you be good' i should measure one tomorrow so text me after noon. Or I send you a pair. it will help insulate against corrosion... but not for ever lol

You had to ask. Exsoccer actually had two goals, the first was to beat the ZZP Cobalt LNF.
at the CED meet.
Instead, being a regular guy he decided to take on the more difficult, faster car.
The 9 second ratty blue Cavvy.

It's really cool that all of these parts can work fine together with very little modification
