Car does not like to go into reverse?

Like half the time when I have the clutch to the floor and I go to put the car in reverse the gears catch as if I've got the clutch halfway up already. Why is that? Does anyone else have this issue? Will it ruin my transmission? Anything would be helpful.

No syncro for reverse if I remember hearing correctly.
When shifting into reverse, put the car into third and then shift to reverse

So, was it built without the synchro? Or did mine die a horrible death somewhere along the line?

Try pumping the clutch a few times before putting it in reverse. If it helps, you either need to bleed the clutch system (try that first), or replace the slave / tob assy.

Hope it just needs bleeding because it's a whole lot easier job

I usually put it into 1st, roll ever so slightly forward, then it slides into reverse nice and easy. Pain in the ass I know..

Never happened to me until about 30k miles. I'm almost at 40k now and it'll only happen every once in a while. I Just got into the habit of putting it in 1st before I throw it in reverse. Works (almost) every time. Try doing that and hopefully it'll solve it for ya.

Cobalts have a synchronized reverse gear.

OP- Putting the car in 1st as others said seems to make it easier to go into reverse.
