I got a 05' Colalt LS only had it less then month. I was parked at a 7-11 got in tired to start my car and it didnt start. I tired 3 times no luck so I waited 5 mins then tired again.
I Look at my handbook said tried pushing petal to floor then start. It worked it started up but now my check engine light is on. My service center is close for weekend and monday wonder if it still safe to drive into monday when I can get it checked out.

my light has been on for a couple weeks now. It will be fine to drive till you can take it in.

It seems quite a few people have experienced the CEL warning. Probably an electrical problem. In my cavalier I would get it every time it rained.

If it starts to flash though stop driving the car.

So this problem isnt related to the driver's habits? But instead its the fault of the manufacturer? Ok, now I know what to look out for.

Well I think I fixed it on my own seems it on a showing AC wiring line. They did a craping wiring job on my car. My light is out now then had a friend hook it up on a computer check or any problems and he found none.

theres actually a recall for some problems in the a/c wiring when out side temp reaches 70F or above. The wires will surge a fry one of the sensors.

Condition
Certain 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac Pursuit vehicles have one of two conditions, 1) the steering column mounted airbag module wiring may be reversed. The driver's air bag will deploy under the same conditions (see "When Should An Air Bag Inflate?" in your owner's manual) and the vehicle meets the occupant protection requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. In the event of a moderate frontal impact, however, the airbag would deploy fully instead of at the reduced level described in your owner's manual, or 2) vehicles equipped with a 2.2L engine (L61) and air conditioning (C67), voltage spikes from abnormal fan switching can damage the air conditioning pressure sensor transducer, resulting in a loss of air conditioning. Damage is more likely to occur if the abnormal fan switching occurs when the vehicle is being driven in city traffic and when the outside temperatures are 70 °F (21 °C) or higher. The spikes can also cause the engine to operate in a reduced power mode. If this occurs, the Driver Information Center will display "ENG PWR REDUCED", and the maximum throttle opening will permit a speed of about 30 mph (48 km/h).

Correction
Dealers are to 1) modify the circuitry to the airbag module, or 2) install wiring to isolate the voltage spike.

What We Will Do
Your GM Dealer will either modify the circuitry to the airbag module or install wiring to isolate the voltage spike, whichever is the appropriate repair. This service will be performed for you at no charge .



Ive done a bunch of these already if youve got the 2.2 and A/c it takes all of about 9 minutes.....if you DONT have the 2.2 AND A/C its more like 1/2 hour

when that damn engine pwr reduced message comes on you will wish you werent driving the car.... Happened to me and trust me It was not a fun drive to the dealer.

Just wondering when they say "fan" do they mean the engine fan or the AC/heating fan (or would that be called the blower)?

I would go ahead and get it done.. My car was in the shop 3 times for this before they put that new harness in. So I actually had it done before the recall. First time air just quit working as in it would not blow cold. Second time I got the eng pwr reduced but hey atleast the air was working while trying to navigate through city traffic at a speed comparable to a horse drawn buggy. For the last time the air quit working. However since the new part I have had no troubles.
