Clutch Engage Point
Clutch Engage Point
Hey everyone, This is my first post on the forums.
I am thinking of buying a Cobalt LT Coupe to replace my old car (A 94 Cutlass Supreme)
The question I have is: When taking one for a test drive, I found that you have to lift the clutch up quite a bit before it starts engaging.
I was also told that for other cars this can be quite easily adjusted, so I was wondering if this is also true for the Cobalt. I like my clutch to start engaging almost right off the floor.

Hmm , interesting . I LOVE the fact it engages up to high . You hardly have to push the clutch in at all to shift and sitting at a light in gear . Makes powershifting a absolute breeze as well , not that everybody cares about that
I am not sure if the Cobalts clutch is adjustable or not . Not all are adjustable .

By the way your avatar is badass ExHondaMan and so was the game.
I have an SS/SC, and it almost feels like the engage point has changed since i bought it. When i first got it you had to lift up about half way to get it to start moving, now as soon as you pull up it starts to grab lightly and as you get up about half way your usually pretty thoughly engaged.
Mine is WAY up there, it takes almost no pressure to start it disengaging and then MAYBE 3/4"-1" it's fully disengaged. At halfway it's disengaged, after it starts to grab you're almost completely off the pedal.
i think that compared to my moms z28 camaro that the SS is a lot lower than it. i always find myself wonderin when the camaro clutch is gunna grab and with my ss jus kinda comin off of it and it grabbin. doesnt make ne difference to me it jus takes time to get used to thats all.

My Cobalt LT's clutch starts to noticebley engage about halfway through the pedal's travel. I don't find this annoying at all since I deal with inner-city traffic on the freeways on a daily basis.
Once you've driven the car for two weeks or so you get used to the clutch and you end up not thinking about it.
P.S. Cobalt clutch > '89 3/4-Ton Pickup clutch.
I'm glad to hear other people's clutches are engaging at the same point as mine--
about 1/2 way up. I just got an oil change and the guy at the shop said "You better
get that looked at, my clutch in my Jetta engages right off the floor". Mine has
pretty much engaged about 1/2 way up, and I've had no problems with it, minus
sometimes smelling clutch after driving, regular driving or not. No noticeable
slipping, though.

i have around 1000 miles on my car. at first the clutch engaged right at the floor, now its about 3/4 of the way out. from what i understand the clutch is self adjusting. its not slipping or anything, and it is easier on the left leg not pushing the clutch in as far
I actually just experienced a problem when i was racing a day ago. I had a stage 2 spec clutch installed and it engaged about 3/4 the way up maybe. What happened though is that my clutch actually seemed to come out of adjustment (after some hard clutch dropping), where as it used to engage about 3/4 way up, now the clutch engaged when you have the pedal fully out. Plus the clutch is actually constantly slipping now, so its going back in to get fixed.
