well spray some break clean on it and see if theres a crack or something. who knows maybe the mechanic made a mistake of some sort or you hit something while you where driving.

Changing a clutch is a really big job, many other parts have to come out..

Could have forgotten any number of things..

with the job you dont take off anything that would make the oil drain from the motor. wait, is this tranny fluid or motor oil. maybe he didnt tighten the filler cap for the tranny tight enough or he didnt put the cvs shafts in good enough?

Agreed , it is a big job.
But what would have been removed that contains engine oil?

nope it says clutch and motor oil it could be either one. and seeing as how he had his clutch done i am thinking its more likely the tranny fluid since you dont take off anything that would drain the motor oil (well i didnt anyways) or something could of cracked his oil pan while he was driving who knows.

its still a dark looking oil in some cases. guess we'll have to wait to see if he cleaned it and found where it was coming from

this is like solving a crime

if we knew what kind of fluid it is, we could help find the source

I don't think it's tranny fluid. That stuff is thinner than oil, and looks reddish. What about the brake fluid? It's used for the clutch too. Was the bleeder valve tightened? It's on top of the tranny. If the fluid wasn't coming from the top, could it be from the small opening in the bottom front area of the tranny where the flywheel connects to the starter? Possibly could be a blown slave cylinder. I just did that with the Spec stage 3+ clutch.

I was about to ask how the mechanic suspended the engine when he pulled the trans. These pans should not have anyting under them to support the engine. I went out an purchased an engine bridge to support the engine to pull the subframe and the trans. I wouldn't accept JB Weld......new pan IMO.

i thought about a cracked pan, but a "mechanic" should know better.

sounds like a back yard mechanic with a building over his head.

i would egg his sign
