clutch and shifting

Hello guys this is my first post on this forum and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. First of all I'm a little off when it comes to smart phones so there may be a thread already...but I did try searching and had issues. Second I do not have an SS. Since this is out the way here's my problem.
Its an 05 cobalt 5 speed and I got in it today after work and it seems it disengages after hardly releasing the clutch pedal. It still engages when the pedal is to the floor and shifts smooth.just Instead of it engaging about 1 quarter to ahalf as normal you have to go about 3/4 to the floor and so fourth.
Do I need fluid or is my clutch going it has 137000 on it
Any help would be thankful

Is the clutch slipping at all at wot? Have you checked for leaks? TOB could be toast. Fluid is a possibility if its so old that it boiled and air is in the lines.

Sounds like there could be air in the line somewhere, or worse the clutch or throwout bearing (tob) could be going out. Assuming it's the same for the base model as the SS, the throwout bearing and the slave cylinder are one integrated unit within the bell hosting. This means that servicing them means removing the transmission which is a pain.

Is this something that can be replaced in your yard. Say with the front tires on some tires maybe with a couple of blocks. Should I pay a shop to replace them or is it basic. I am familiar with general wrenching. Just never on a small ass car

It's not basic. Anything involving the clutch requires the transmission to be removed.

Alot of members have done it in their driveway. Some even prefer it over using a lift. Most say it takes about a day to do.

Just because a lot of people have done it doesn't mean it's an easy job. The OP asked if it was basic which it's far from.

Perodic Rough shifting

I have a 2005 cobalt ss sc. Some days it's shifts great others not so much. If I get on it in 1st get to 5500-6500 rpm I cannot get into 2nd. And if I'm driving for a while sometimes all gears are hard to get. Sometime reverse goes in just fine other times I can't get reverse at all. It does not pop out of any gear and 4th and 5th are both strong. What's anyone's thoughts?
Thanks!
