Clutch Slipping from 1-2

Well when i find myself just want to take off from a dead stop the shift from 1st to second isnt a bark it is more like i slipping feeling like my clutch is going out. But the only thing that makes me think it is not that is b/c i can bark the tires at a lower rpm when i not so much on the gas. My friend with his 450rwhp Cobra says that i could be spinning the tires but i dont know what to think. Suggestions would be nice. Preach

I have the same problem. The clutch is slipping on mine. There is no way im spining the tires.
Resonse why its clutch slipping.
1: I have 235/40/18s and there is no way I have enuff power to spin them like that.
2: Clutch feals funny now.
3: (And this is the best one of all) I can SMELL the clutch burning after a few hard shifts like this and then stoping.

Im going to the dealer as soon as I get home to see what they car do for me. but Im preping to have to replace my clutch my self just in case.

later

But i havent done it enough to smell anything like it is slipping but im sure i will figure that out tonight when i run a few of my buddies. But thanks for advice if it continues to slip i will take it to the GM dealership and see what they think.

When I ran my car at the Track two weeks ago, the car would bark in first, second AND third gear. The car is stock, and very capable.

When I removed my engine and took off the clutch\flywheel the first thing my mechanic buddy said was how "STRONG" this clutch was. I asked him how thats possible because it slips sometimes, especially when really getting on it. He said and I quote "user error" He looked at the flywheel and he could clearly see that it had slipped. He said this comes from riding the clutch or "not letting out the clutch properly" at sometime in it's life. As we all know these clutches take a bit of getting used to and in all likelihood there are times we don't let it out right. This produces a build up (of some sort I could take pics) and that this build up can cause the clutch to slip when getting on it such as racing. My mechanic also said that to reuse the flywheel I would need to resurface so that it would work properly.
Now I hate to admit that yes in fact there were times I didn't do exactly what I should have when letting out the clutch especially in traffic and when I wanted to get out from behind someone, and move.
So again it is quite likely we are to blame for the state of our clutches. Perhaps someone, such as Wop can comment on this.

I am not sure but I will check this week seeing as mine is laying around doing nothing anyways. I am replacing it with a Fidanza but having a few spare parts ready to go on in a moments notice never hurts. My clutch looks great and it did slip when going fullout especially from 1st to 2nd, and wouldn't really catch till the revs went way down.

Thats exactly what mine does it doesnt seem to catch until the RPMs go down, but im gonna try some different methods of shifting and letting out on the clutch to see if it is driver error

I am hoping a mechanic or two will help out in this thread, but the way I understand it if this has happened enough resurfacing the flywheel maybe necessary.

The clutch seems to be more than adequate for every day "sedate" driving- but it appears anyone that punishes it, is rewarded with slippage and eventually failure. There are many factors that could be contributing to this, including "user error" but IMO the clutch is not meeting expectations of the crowd the SS/SC is targeting.

I've wondered how it might fare in the LSJ using the Saab flywheel for which it was designed-which is a "dual mass" unit. I've also been concerned that sometimes (given how hard this supposedly "slick" gearbox can be to shift at times) the clutch may not be fully releasing at times as well.

So I would say if you have the $$ and opportunity to upgrade the flywheel and clutch- certainly do so. Especially if you plan to race or punish the car on a regular basis. If not the stock clutch is more than adequate.I would consider either replacing or resurfacing the flywheel whenever the clutch is replaced.

I can tell you this for sure. My clutch was never miss used.
My cavalier on the other hand was abused many times and still never slipped.
I tought my girl to drive stick on the cavy and my brother and my freind josh. Along with many trips to the track and over 100K of me beating the crap out of it. It never slipped one time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I put that STOCK clutch threw more in 100K then most people put 3 cars threw on more then 300K total and it still never slipped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im sorry but I think there is a problem with this car wether it be in the clutch or one of the controling parts for the clutch there is a problem.

I have 5300 miles or so and my clutch has been slipping for the last 200 miles or so.

I took my time and broke the car and clutch in the right way as recomended by the dealer and the owners manual. And I still have a slipping clutch.

My car has the GM stage 2 kit and a catt back and a K&N filter. There is no way my filter and catt back are making enuff power to couse problems and GM warrentys the stage kit so the clutch should hold the power Im making.

I broke the clutch and the car in without the stage kit on as well.

I dont know exactly why these clutches slip But I do know that enuff people are haveing a problem with it that it needs to be looked in to.

This car is going to get a bar rap that it dosnt deserve if this all to comon problem is not addressed and solved swiftly by GM. Befor this gets out of hand and people start with the legal end of it.

Later.
