Damaged rotor

Not sure if rotor belongs to drivetrain section.

But here goes. Recently, my girlfriend's '06 Cobalt LT went in the shop for EVAP leak engine check light service. Turns out the front brakes needed to replaced due to bad alignment in rear brakes. All that was fixed.

We didn't use the car the whole week after this was repaired. Went back to DC for 6 hours trip from Virginia. I'm not going to mention which dealership was this, but we had to drive for 6 hours with horrific & loud noise coming from front wheels.

It turns out that the technician did not tighten the bolts to the front right wheel enough that led to the severe damage on the rotor. Cost half grand to replace it. The dealership responsible paid for it.

The dealership in Alexandria, VA recommended we should get the driver side rotors replaced too due to safety reason. The dealership responsible says there is no safety concern on the driver side if the passenger side has a new rotor.

I am no expert when it comes to this, but what is your take on this?

Thanks

You should be fine not replacing the other rotor maybe just have it resurfaced

That's right. I had to deal with it, even I am hard of hearing. Imagine how much worst is it if I had same hearing level as hearing people. I am hard of hearing.

Thanks for your response, uv blue.

as long as you don't feel the wheel shaking under braking, any weird brake pedal feel, or hearing any more noises like that, it should be just fine.

is it shiny?

you'll be fine, if the car feels ok after they fixed the pass side, theres nothing to worry about for now.

I wouldn't think one side would grab harder than the other.

If you notice the car pulling while braking then you might want to match the other side with new rotor and pad, but that's probably not needed.
