Question Differences between 4t40 and 4t45 for use in cobalt?

Is the 4t40 easily able to be used as a replacement transmission for a cobalt? What really makes it different from the 4t45?

lower torque rating. why would you want to downgrade? mechanically theyre so similar, that just about anything you do to a 4t40 can be done using the exact same parts with a 4t45

Mine was built using a 4t40 shell but I asked him and he said that it was all updated to 4t45 specs and I was just wondering if that was possible to do. He added extra raybestos clutch packs, cryo treatment, lsd, and higher stall TQ Converter among other things. Trans shop still hasnt put it in.

im sure they use the same case. The 4t45 is just an upgraded 4t40 after all

looking forward to your results though

the 4t45e is a bit beefed up, however its the same overall design. the planetariy gear sets will be a bit stronger and there may be more frictions in the clutch packs.

I know for sure my planetary gears were cryo treated so the strength should be good on those.
