SS problems 😢

Hi guys new member here and just looking for a start to the right direction. Just recently bought an 05 Cobalt SS and now it's stuck in first. The shifter moves freely into gears but 1st feels different. I'm coming to think it could be the linkage or something with the gear box. Then again I'm no mechanic nor do I know alot about these cars being the first one I've owned. Anyone else know the problem?

I can gaurentee its your shift cables.

Mine had this problem, but with 3rd gear.

Does not shift into any other gear. Stays in first no matter what you do.

Check underneath your cup holders and see if the shift cable clamps are connected to the cables.

If not its something within the transmission

It'd have to be in thwriting trany because the cables are all connected. But would you think it'd slip out of gear into neutral

When you say first feels different, in what way is it different?

Try putting putting car into nuetral by manually moving the gears directly on the transmission

Different as in it Doesn't slid into it like all the other gears. It feels like it can't go all the way in. It's kinda hard to explain. You'd have to feel it yourself. An ok I'll go ahead an try that tomorrow

Horizontal stick movement is one cable and vertical is another. You'll know if its the cables by manually moving the transmission.

Ok thank you. I'll try it out tomorrow and comment back if it's not the problem.

Nothing worked. I tried everything else. Gonna keep looking into the clutch, could possibly not be engaging. I'll just buy a bew tranny. It needed one anyway.
