I have a 06 cobalt ss 2.4 it just started to grind when i go into 4th gear. All the other gears work fine anyone know what could be causing this?

Sounds like its either out of adjustment or you have a bad synchro

adjustments will generally be on the cables themselves right underneath the shifter. Is there an aftermarket shifter in the car?

I would be thinking more along the lines of synchros if its all stock.

Cars extended warranty should cover synchros. They are in the transmission so it would have to be pulled and call a transmission shop for pricing. Or someone who rebuilds transmission.

My gmpp extended powertrain warranty covered my trans work. They're probably telling you that you are responsible for paying if they determine its not covered. I fought my dealer and they covered it.

Just a heads up, they took a week before they tore the car apart. Then two weeks before they got the parts, and back together.

eh thats one of the gray line areas. if it's modded they'll prob try to fight it but he said it's stock so he should be good....when i got my car and got the extended warranty or w/e it explicitly stated what would be considered wear and what wouldn't.

id say clutch is the only wearable part... something that is commonly changed... not a synchro... especially if it's stock..

Ya like i said before its all stock. only thing i changed was head-unit and added a system which wouldn't hurt the tranny or anything haha.. i called my extended warranty that i paid for and they said it should fall on the gm certified warranty 100,000-Mile/5-Year2 Powertrain Limited Warranty. The car was used when i got it but it was certified

I have an aftermarket shifter and sometimes I have a hard time getting it into gear, especially fourth, and its a brand new clutch. How would I go about adjusting the cables?
