Driver side Axle seal/LSD question
Ok, quick question guys. I've had a bit of an axle seal leak on the driver side for some time now. I've been monitoring it to see if it gets worse and have been having my mechanic check the transmission fluid level during oil changes to make sure it isn't particularly going down, which it isn't. He said not to worry about it. The leak has progressed into an occasional drip (only when warm...if I leave cardboard under you will see no drips) so I will take care of that soon. I am getting a bit of a quick chirp noise on acceleration and the beginnings of what i'm going to call "worn out bearing noise" so I checked my wheel bearings. There is no play in them at all (which I know doesn't guarantee they are ok) and also no excess play in the intermediate shaft. I have driven the car in circles in an open lot and don't really notice the noise being any worse one way or the other. Anyway, my question here is, could that fluid be leaking from the differential and not the transmission itself? I read that the LSD has its own fluid separate from the transmission. I'm not sure if the LSD is on the left or right side, and I don't know if my mechanic knows that this particular LSD is sealed.
