ETS (traction control) problem

I'm having an issue with my traction control. The light keeps coming on while I'm driving, but after some time it also turns back off on its own with what seems to be no cause i can not make it come on or make it go off no matter what i do. While this light is on I've notice when the transmission(automatic) is shifting it's really rough but as soon as the light decides to turn off everything is smooth again.

Im not too sure what the problem could be or where to start looking but I'd like to get some idea of what it is before bringing it in to have them troubleshoot/fix it, if you have any idea what it could be thatd be a great help.

Does it read anything out to you on the dash when the light comes on? Like "Service ESC" or "Service Traction Control" or anything like that

Those messages usually indicate that there's an issue with an ABS sensor, causing the system to shut off. Sounds like that's not the case with yours though. That's the only thing I have experience I have with it. If you know of any shops that have a scan tool (not one of the small ones like the auto parts stores but one of ones with more features like from Snap-On) they should be able to scan for codes and let you know what's wrong
