F23 VSS questions

Please pardon my inexperience. I find myself the new owner of an '88 Pontiac Fiero with a 2005 L61/F23 heart transplant that is partially completed. (I hear some of you saying "stupid/poor fool" in the background there... )

Since the harnesses out of both the 2005 and the 1988 are hacked and missing, I am trying to figure out what the signals out of the VSS sending unit look like. The transmission is a Getrag F23 (M86 RPO code) with 16 miles on it before it was yarded out of the Cobalt donor car. The VSS out of the stock 88 tranny is a 4000 pulse-per-mile style but as I understand it, the new VSS does not work that way.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out how this works so that I can build a circuit to drive my gauges?

Also... Anybody have any info on the drive-by-wire throttle? That's the next project on my list.

Thanks in advance for any help you can lend,

Icelander

Nobody has any ideas of how this works or where I might look to find this information?

I did a 3800 SII Supercharged swap into an 87 Fiero... I know what you're going through. Let me tell you, thats a better starting point than what you're going with now. Your harness is gonna be a definite problem. You need to get one as well as the PCM. I say just get a 3800. NEARLY bolts in, with a little fab-more power potential too. Keep the Isuzu tranny that should already be in the Fiero... Theres your speedo. God... there's so much you could do.

0-60 in about 4 seconds... Don't die.

Thanks for the feedback but as I said, this is a project that I've jumped into the middle of. I already have the Ecotec, the F23 tranny and the MegaSquirt is under construction. I was hoping that someone on this forum might have the knowledge to help me figure out the VSS portion but I guess I'll have to look elsewhere and/or sample the output of the sensor and see if I can reverse-engineer it myself.
