The tranny seems to be the weak point in these cars. I've had fits with mine, I know a ton of other people who have had issues with the linkage. I never knew anything about them since it's really only used on the SAABs in North America. Be interesting to browse the 9-3 forums and see what kinds of issues people on there have had with them. Mine hates 2nd gear (that seems to be where the problems start...either 2nd or 3rd). I had the dealer take mine apart and they tinkered with the linkage cable a little and that helped a lot but there are times when it still feels a little rough.

wow that sucks :/ Give more details we are all eager to hear. Last I knew when I seen him folks he had quite a few miles on the car but not as many as I had. I thought between 14-16k.

My baby's been down 3 weeks and counting. Roll pin broke at 4200 miles on the dot. Synchros had a coronary and died on the operating table, gears could have pulled through but hemorraging from the synchros turned em to metal shavings. So I beat you to the "self-destructing" tranny. They tell me I SHOULD have her back sometime this week, but who knows.......

LOL, sorry man, I may have been a bit tipsy (read that drunk as all hell) when I posted that. The roll pin broke, and I drove it about 15 miles home, losing gears one by one til I finally ran out as I pulled into my driveway. Gears are shredded because the synchros went out shortly after the roll pin broke.

The linkage is hella easy to adjust yourself Alleycat. Just pop off the molding around the shifter and it's two clips you move up and you can move the linkage adjustment around.

Just mark where you started with a perm marker so you can get back to where you started.

Well, that's what the dealer did for me was adjust the linkage. I like working on my own car, but if it's under warranty then the dealer is going to fix it. I did the same thing with my e-brake cable, which I know for sure is easy, but under warranty it's someone else's to deal with. I take my car in with a "honey do" list for the dealership. I've got a good relationship with the whole crew in the service department so I know they will take care of it and fix it right, otherwise I wouldn't trust them with it at all.
