First, third and fifth hard to shift into
First, third and fifth hard to shift into
Hey guys,
I have a TWM. I put it in myself, and never had problems. 18k miles later, I noticed for the first time yesterday that it was difficult to get into first, third and fifth. Any idea what the problem could be? Something I need to adjust? Did I void my transmission/clutch warranty with a short shifter?

Crack it open and take a look. Something might have come loose and be causing the problem. Though just making sure everything is connected and tightened down might fix your problem, you might want to consider pulling it out and reinstalling to make sure everything is lined up right. Things shift with time and I'm going to guess that the shifter slide a bit or one of the connections came loose.
Actually first isn't giving me a problem, only when it's cold which is normal. So it's third which is slightly difficult and fifthe which is twice as difficult. It also feels like fifth adjusts itself when I stick it in.
I broke a piece that was plastic, shaped sorta like a T and it had a bearing inside it. I even went to the dealer to find out what it was and they couldn't tell me. So I went ahead and used the shifter without it. Worked fine in every gear. Then, after 18k miles this. It hasn't got any worse or better since I first notcied it and it's going to the dealer just for them to check. Let ya know whatsup tomorrow.
Dealer won't break open the tranny unless I have a stock shifter on there. They said as far as they can tell, the shifter is causing it. That doesn't make any sense though, since it's been on the car for so long and I basically drive on the highway 90% of the time. So I don't do much shifting.
Anyone have a stock 2.4 shifter laying around? I'll pay shipping and if you want it back...I'll pay for it to come back too.

I'll keep you updated. Had to buy books and software for my final semester at SNHU ($990) and new tires because I failed state inspection on one tire ($650) which just about cleaned me out.
Check your shift linkage. Specifically the parts near where they connect to the trans. If the black plastic sheathing in that spot is cracked or broken, those gear will be extremely hard to get into. New linkage cost about $110 from the stealership.
Instead of taking it all apart. Look on the tranny where your shifter links, sometimes theres a coolant hose that may drop in to the path, causeing 1st, 3rd, and 5th hard to get into, as the shifter will squish the hose.
pop the hood. facing the car its on the right side between the enging & firewall. You could get some one to move your shifter around while your looking so you could see it. but from above would be eaziest.
thats what i had happen to mine after getting it back from the dealer
