I just had a buddy call me up looking for a flywheel, and long story short, it appears as though often the interchange is completely ignored.

On TTR's site, I can see two aftermarket brands of lightweight flywheels that are listed as being for 2002-2005 Cavalier's as well as 2005-2009/2010 Cobalt's, but aside from TTR's site, I kept hitting a brick wall.

I found on Rock Auto's site that both the Cavalier's and Cobalt's with the L61 have the same 8-7/8"OD / 15/16" ID / 14 tooth clutch disc, but could find no listing for a separate pressure plate (which from my experience, is often the key part to deciphering interchange)...

I also came back here and did a search, but aside from people asking what others thought of "brand x's" lightweight flywheel, nothing here as well.

So;

Can we clearly define the interchange on the Flywheels for our cars?

Right now I'm inclined to believe the following based on engine/transmission configuration;
Flywheel type #1:

• 2002-2005 J-body w/L61
• 2004-2010 Delta/Solstice/Sky with L61/LAP/LE5

Flywheel type #2:

• 2004-2007 Delta w/LSJ
• 2007-2010 Solstice GXP/Sky Redline/Opel GT (all w/LNF)
• 2008-2010 Delta w/LNF

Does that look correct?

I found the following part numbers for the (above) type #1 flywheel:

• AC Delco #388160 / #19264333
• Brute Power / Perfection Clutch #502743
• Fidanza (LW) #FID198281
• Spec (LW) #SPECSC98A

Anyone have any more info to offer or part numbers to share?

 

whats the actual question here? what are you putting the flywheel on? Because for example, you can swap a complete flywheel/pressure plate between an LNF and an LSJ you cant mix and match pieces between the two (LNF clutch on an LSJ flywheel etc.)

Looks like youre asking about L61s though, so if it uses an F23 trans or is RWD it uses the same flywheel....

I thought I was being clear, by stating what I believed to be the interchangeable flywheels (and as long as the flywheel & transmission are the same that would mean that the clutches (less internal slave) would interchange as well).

I found nothing of this nature posted here, and found that most parts listings do not show a flywheel for many of our vehicles (CED ect aside).

In the end I see that we could compile information to the point that any member here could reference this thread when looking for parts be it clutch, or flywheel ~ but I'm using the flywheel as the jumping off point.

Flywheel 1: all 2.2 and 2.4 Cobalts/HHR/G5/Solstice/Cavalier
Flywheel 2: LSJ
Flywheel 3: LNF

I believe the only difference is the size of the dowel pins. If you had a GMPP clutch, I think you'd have the reduce the radius of the dowel pins on an LNF flywheel. Not 100% on that. #inb4dontreusetheflywheel

 

All you need to do for the Dowel pin issue is cut up the body of a Bic pen, slide then over the dowels and then install the clutch/pressure plate and torque to specs. Then remove the Bic pen pieces and call it a day. They even show this in the CED listing. Check it out....

ah, that's going onto an LSJ flywheel. that should fit onto the LNF flywheel without even having to do the bic pen trick.
