Ok, so I have the solution!!!!(prying with screwdriver doesn't work--at all). I finally got so pissed off that I sawed the old shifter right in half............Works like a charm. The new B&M shifter is now in the car and I'll test drive it tomorrow morning. Now........Where did I leave those beers?

I didn't get your number so I fugured I'd try it myself. Other than dealing with the old shifter and getting the clips back on the cables it was easy. However, we'll still have a few beers next meet.

ha thats funny my shift *** and the whole reverse lock out assembly just comes off if i try to pull into second to hard. ha honestly though if youtwist the shift knob grab the knob with two hands and pull up with constant pressure it will pop off.

Well, Ninja44 states that--using a flathead screwdriver, you place it under the knob between the plastic and the bottom of the knob and pry it up and it should pop right off. but it didn't work for me

If you're going to do it yourself keep these things in mind.....because the instructions from B&M can be a little vague.

Remove the cup holder first. Then the plastic console around the parking brake and then remove the boot console(you don't have to remove the knob from the old shifter if it doesn't come off easily until you get the whole shifter assembly out of the car). Just pull the boot up over the shifter and unplug the cigarette lighters and you can work around the whole assembly.

Be really careful with the cable links........they are plastic.

Don't, don't, don't forget to mark the cable reference position with a marker as to the exact position of the cable links to the cables. When you are putting them back together you will need this reference or you'll be adjusting so that you aren't grinding gears!!!!

I am, however, at a total loss as to how you get the OE(original equip.) shift retainer off the old shifter......and it was a this point when I sawed the old one in half just to get it off.

Before you unscrew the torx driver screws(you'll need a t-15 torx driver) and remove the top stock shifter, make a mental note of how the whole assembly goes together because once you remove it the whole thing will fall apart and it's a bit of a jigsaw puzzle when you're putting it back together again.

It doesn't really say this in the instructions but as a note....when you remove the OE cable link from the bottom of the stock shifter and place in on the ball of the B&M shifter, it will be oriented differently but this doesn't matter. It is supposed to be like that.

Don't install the knob insert (the little top part) onto the knob until everything is completely done and the knob is screwed on. That way you will have the B&M logo facing the right direction.

ENJOY!!!!!

It's probably the same except you won't have a spring in the knob but I only removed the SS/SC stock shifter so don't quote me on that.........I'm just speculating.

You know, even after I sawed the thing in half I thought I'd try to pry off the knob anyway and all that happened was the plastic broke----and I was really reefing on it. It's still there as we speak. I think they welded this one on!
