Full face vs. 6 puck
It's time to replace the stock clutch on the lnf. I have downpipe, catback, cai, and hp tune coming in a month, so I'll be looking at increased torque.
I'm pretty set on the KY clutch but I am still open to suggestions, I simply cant afford an expensive setup and from reviews, more expensive clutches have received the same(if not more) negative feedback. So I know full face clutches generally last longer but are more prone to slipping because they cant support increased torque. 6 puck setup should hold more torque but not last as long. With the setup im going to have, would you suggest KY stage 1 or 2? Basically would you suggest a 6 puck clutch for basic bolt ons and tune? Edit: oh and yea this car's warranty went up this month. only has ~25k miles on it. I'm the second owner and the car was completely raped when we bought it So I'm 90% sure its not my driving thats ruining clutches |
Hey bro, honestly tourque capacity it a issues. So running acfull face and a higher tq load it won't last. So I recommend the 6 puck..... And a full face disc has.better slipping but if your making more power then the clutch can hold then u sol be purchasing a new clutch soon

No matter what brand/type of clutch, you need one that you can live with. If you are going to be DDing your car I would steer clear of puck-type clutches, due to their on-off engagment. That will get old quick. If you are going to be taking the car to the course or track then go for holding power over smooth engagement and get a puck-type clutch.

Honestly my exedy is fine for DD. Either way pick something with some good tq capacity and you should be good to gol

So KY stage 2 looks like a good option for my setup? |
And also what no one gets. It a few is Tq capacity. Full face disc clutches technically will not hold good Tq, for a good amount of time. Which is why you purchase the correct clutch which in your case is a 6 puck ..

Imo best clutch for a DD is the zzp s4. I love it on my friends car. Only problem is its not cheap.

Clutch material (like organic, kevlar, ceramic, blended, etc.) also has a big hand in clutch life. Depending on the material, you can accidentally burn or glaze one pretty bad and basically ruin it early. Others can be driven on and brought back, and others aren't prone to glazing. I guess I'm just saying that puck vs. disk isn't the only variable at hand here.

^^: correctly mundo lol. I'm part messican. Lol jk.. the ky clutch has less peddle pressure if anything with its stage 1-3..

Ky stage 3

So what all should i get with the clutch?
Stock flywheel or lightweight suggested? I don't know details...anything else ill need to order? |
Order the ky clutch stage three, a throwout bearing, and get flywheel resurfaced or get a new flywheel. Don't go lightweight unless u mainly do track
|
What makes a puck type clutch not last as long as full face disk...my clutch is completely fucked, want the KY 6 puck. I'm afraid the tranny will break though..
|
Maybe an 8 puck would be best for dd.

I can slip my Clutchmasters just fine, they're just touchy the 1st few hundred miles and I have heard even better reviews from the KY so I would assume its even easier to slip it.
|
i was looking at the zzp stage 3 (400lbft), or spec 2+ (380lbft) w/fidanza flywheel, or exedy hypersingle setup(w/ excedy flywheel, 350ish ftlbs rating), for a zzp stage 3 setup (catless, fmhe, 80s), 3" catback (resonated), zzp 3"cai, in mind for a future 252et kit, which would be a better option as far as streetablity and clamp load that i wont have to replace the clutch when i get zzp's turbo kit?

KY stage 3 with stock flywheel, best quality, best value. Proven performance.
|
Im running a clutchmasters stage 4 6 puck with lightweight flywheel in my car. While it was fine at first the setup gets old after 2,000 miles. There is no slipping the clutch and the light flywheel makes the car tough to get going. On any hill I look like a 16 year old just learning how to drive stick...with 3" straight pipe exhaust it makes it sound even worse.
|
how is pedal effort on ky stage 3 compared to stock?
|
Depends on the clamping force, but its either the same or less stiff. depending on your hydraulic system.
