Havent driven the car since my last post, but, It dawned on me, I never flushed the trans fluid. I thought it was fill for life, which means you should prob change it anyway. I have just under 50k and I have never done it. Im going to try that, see if it goes away, it would make sense if the trans fluid just needed to be changed, in that when there was no pressure on the gears they made noise from less lubrication..

It's just a noisy transaxle - was first used in the 1980s lol.

I always wondered if that noise meant something might be wrong in the trans. I notice it all the time when I let off the gas in 3rd gear. My 3rd gear is where the metal grinding noise is most noticeable. I always wonder if that meant there isn't enough trans fluid, lol. It does make the noise in 2nd too, but the lower gearing keeps that in check most of the time.

still havent really driven the car or got a chance to change the fluid, but I will say, for the first 50k some miles I did not have this issue, its only recently. So I think that its a "thats just the way" it is issue.

I just picked up an '06 SS with 80k from a GM dealer last week. The trans sounds way too noisy to me, and I took it back twice to have it checked out. I could have sworn something was wrong with it.

Their transmission tech tells me it's got straight-cut gears, and other heavy-duty parts that make it become noisy over time. As long as it's a normal characteristic of the transmission, and not a sign that something is about to fail, I can live with it.

LOL, straight cut gears.

The LSJ also has GM's version of "VTEC."

Mine makes a pinging type noise while cruising steady state in gear, especially 4th and 5th. Goes away when clutch is pressed.

Who knows? I'm just going to drive it until something happens, lol.

About that axle click i get that alot but i replaced my axle and it still clicks. Is there like a ujoint or something that could also cause this? Car is very jerky getting on or off the gas no matter how easy i do it and it sucks for driveability.

And is there any solution or combo of clutch/fly that is a tad quieter or is it just the gears?

These noises really grind my gears

Sounds like the same problem I have which I'm thinking it's either input shaft bearing or throw oh bearing in the transmission. Is it more noticeable in specific gears? You should also try when you hear the noise push in the clutch but keep in gear see if it goes away then let go of clutch see if it comes right back.
