Grinding in tranny.Anyone?

My clutch is bad, i know that much, but when in 3rd it makes a crazy grinding noise until i give more throttle. It happens in 2nd also while decelerating and also when i push the clutch in. This just started happening and also my engage height for my pedal is higher now too. Im baffled.

How are you baffled?

Your clutch is bad.
It isnt fully engaging.
You are grinding the gears trying to force them in.
Rev match the car and gear wont grind.
But you should stop driving it and fix what is broken before you strip trans gears out.

Im baffled because its only doing it in gear, not while shifting. Say im in 3rd, then it sometimes will make a rattling grinding noise, then i push in the clutch to change to 2nd, and sometimes grinds while i push clutch pedal in. Is it a clutch assembly issue or could it be a bad tranny?

Not sure. Thats why im baffled!LOL I was driving, shifted from 3rd to 2nd and got this strange violent rattle grind noise. Its freaking me out cause a mechanic said my tranny is done. The car only has 100,108 km on it, and dont drive the **** outta it. Ive never replaced the clutch, and 7 months ago another mechanic said my clutch and master cylander were toast. When the grinding starts in 3rd, i give gas, and it goes away but comes back. Hope this helps describe this problem.

so youve been driving with a bad clutch for 7 months?

if your clutch was worn then, its gotten worse. Every time you depress it to shift and its not engaging all the way you are "kissing" gears as they change. Metal on metal contact and eventually things wear down..

well, when i say bad clutch, i mean its almost engaging close to the top. maybe an inch of play from engage point to let off, and its slipping.

Thanks for the time taken to respond btw. Appreciate it.

Yea. That makes no difference. Bad is bad. A bad clutch is not going to be able to completely perform its intended duties even if the car still works.

You should have fixed that issue 7 months ago instead of continuing to drive it. 70k on a clutch isnt a lot, but if it was abused its easily going to be needing replaced.
