This problem started approx 1,000 miles ago I'd say, and has gradually gotten worse/LOUDER over time... The more I've gotten on the car with harder accelerations, the quicker and worse the noise has gotten, like any failing gasket you can hear I'd assume. Anyways, at first I thought I had a bad Exhaust Manifold Gasket, but now after closer observation, I've noticed it is only loud or gets louder with increased Supercharger Boost PSI, regardless of RPMS. If i baby the car up to 5-6K RPM or whatever, in any gear at any RPM, and ease the gas to climb RPMs I can almost make the noise stay quiet. When driving at low RPMs, in 5th gear for example, and driving too slow for that gear at like 30mph, and pushing the gas pedal just to have boost climb higher without RPM, I can hear the ticking get louder as well... I do have stage 2 upgrades w/ smaller pulley, so I'm wondering if increased Boost PSI from the max stock PSI of like 11 pounds, and increasing boost to over 15-17 PSI with stage 2 pulley, if this has caused a stock "Supercharger Gasket" of some sort to blow out?? I'm not sure, and if anyone else has dealt with this issue and/or has any suggestions or answers as to what the exact problem is for this loud ticking sound, and if so, if it is a hard problem to fix, or gasket to change at home, and if it takes any special tools doing so?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated??!! It has progressed and now to the point I will not drive the car until I can fix it, and I'm really trying too avoid dealer costs of getting it fixed. The car is an 05 Cobalt SS/SC and only has 42,875 MILES!! THANK YOU!! :-))

So now onto the issue, we need more info first, given you said stage 2 and 15-17psi I'm assuming you have a LSJ or an 05-07 SS with a supercharger.

We need additional info, including miles on the car and if the Stage 2 pulley is from GM or another vendor.

Do you have any check engine codes or pending codes?

 

does it happen at idle? i wouldn't think the tensioner is out at 42k miles tho...

maybe post a video of the noise?

Car is an 05 Cobalt SS Supercharged. The upgrades were done when I got the car with 13K miles in 09. But I did get paperwork and yes it was a GM Stage 2 pulley. No Check Engine light is on, and no codes. The car now has 42,875 miles on it. 98+% of the car's life has been grandma driven and the rest was testing her out if you know what I mean...
