Hurst short throw..

Installed the hurst short throw this morning on my 10' ss..it was a pain in the ass..but after the install, all the gears go in fine except 5th gear.. it goes in but I kinda have to move it around to find it.. the shifter will go side to side in neutral, but it will go far if I move it to the right towards 5th..and when I move it all the way to the right and push up to go in fifth, it wont go, id have to bring it back to the left a little bit and then push up for fifth, so if you understand what im trying to say, did I do something wrong here?

the sts makes a smaller shift pattern (i think?), took me a few hours to get used to it, but once you do you'll like it more.

Yeah it actually moves 5th inward so that all gears all equal distance instead of 5th being all the way out to the right. If you stick with it you'll eventually learn the new position and it'll become second nature.

I hated that about my Hurst. It just gets rid of the reverse lockout. At least mine did. The lockout is what would stop it from having all that "extra space" to the right of 5th.

Reverse lockout isnt what keeps it from going all the way to the right....... reverse lockout is what keeps it from going into reverse, hence the name. Its the thing you pull up to get into reverse. If you have a newer version of the hurst then your reverse lockout should work.

make sure the shifter does not move at all left to right when twisting it. if that lock screw aint tight enought it will make 5th hard to get to. and sloppy shifts.

I hear the new version of the hurst addressed that issue with a bigger set screw.

i dont think there is a way to get rid of the extra space at 5th. you will prob just have to get used to it. also, getused to tightening the setscrew every 1000 km or so.

Try adjusting the cables.

I had to play with mine a few times to get it perfect. Drag strip is a real good place to get it all tuned in, except this time of year.

Theres really no way to get rid of the space out towards fifth. Your cables should stay in the same orientation as they were on your stocker. If you want a better shifter then you should probably try TWM. Hurst is the nicest looking in my opinion though.

The Hurst chips very easily and will look like **** in 6-12 months just from your hand touching it.

I regret buying it.
