Hurst Short Throw Shifter

Hey Guys,

Anyone who was thinking about getting the Hurst Short Throw shifter or for those who haven't, DO IT!!!! I got mine in this weekend and it took me about 45 minutes to install. It looks damn cool (with a gunmetal colored shifter knob and shifter). The throws seem to be about two inches shorter (if one can measure it in that way), and you don't have to lift up on that "trigger" to put it into reverse anymore. So for all those who are thinking about it, DO IT!!!

Your too late man. Someone already did post pics in the drivetrain forum where this thread actually belongs. Glad to see you enjoy the shorter throws though.

basically you cant go into reverse pulling down on it straight you would have to go down and over right to get into reverse, I did contact Hurst and the Hurst manager and he will be getting back to me, I am not too worried, I drove all weekend on it and no problems!

Hmmm I'd still rather have my reverse lock out. Glad I waited. Anyone else have this issue with the Hurst?

please tell him that many others have confirmed the reverse lockout not functioning properly, it is not an isolated case. all that time they took to release it, you would think it would have been perfect

On my cavi when I installed my short throw it disabled my reverse lock out, but that was because I didn't install it properly. Check where you have the shifter links hooked up. you should be able to make it so it still locks out.

Personally, I like how the B&M one is black. which ever one I get, I'll probably paint/bake it black, and see if I can get the stock knob on there again

I would get the Hurst and just put a white knob on it. But dammit I like the reverse lockout. I need to find someone with it installed so I can see how it is setup.

double checked it, the shifter is installed correctly, looks like the lockout part on the shifter is slightly too low, but waiting for hurst to give some ideas
Otherwise it is functionally perfect

yea I need that lock out. I was racing once and had to go around a slight curve to the left "we were on the highway" and when I went to put it into fourth I must have moved my hand just a little over to the right and it would have gone straight into reverse lol. lock out FTW

Anyone who actually "needs" a lockout should be driving an auto. The lockout is to make it idiot-proof.

well I heard back from Hurst, Spoke to Jim their Chief tech and engineer, he says they are aware of this problem. this part was prototyped on a car and worked fine, but they recently installed one in a brand new 07 and the shifter does not go into rev. with the reverse lockout.
It goes in without like a lot of us are experiencing.

they are working on this to determine what has changed/ or not changed that causes this.

Question:Anyone that has installed this shifter and do not have the use of the lockout, was your shifter EVER replaced under warranty?
