Ignition problem
Ignition problem
Last night I got home from work and tried to shut my car off but the key wouldnt go all the way to the off position. It stays in acc. or run but I cant remove the key. It acts like it is in gear so its locked even though its in park (auto tranny). I tried turning the steering wheel and moved the shifter back and forth but nothing would work. Do I need to adjust a cable or is there a bad sensor in there somewhere???? PLEASE HELP! Its my only car and I cant leave the key in the ignition everywhere I go...
Most likely issue is the switch in the shifter that signals when vehicle is in PARK. This switch can get gummed up if stuff was ever spilled on shifter, also ealry shifters like youres had a habit of having the pin that works the switch getting loose and no engaging the switch.
If you pull off the console youll see this little micro switch pretty easily, and the pin that I was talking about. if its gummed up spray it down with electronic cleaner, if pin is bent you need a shifter.(the whole thing...its like $150-200 or so)
There should be a hole or a little round cover on the bottom of the steering column, look where the key goes, thats about 3oclock as you face the wheel, the holf will be at 6oclock or so. Youll need a flashlight to see which one is the right hole, but there will be a little release you can push to get the key to rotate to off.

Dont you think there are other places where your comments would be more well recieved, like maybe in the problems section, or on an EVO/SRT4/Honda/whatever forum?
Now to be clear, its not the fact that you are very dissatisfied with the quality of your Cobalt that bothers me, obviously thats a legit thing.
The issue I have is that you feel the need to let everyone in virtually every section of the forum know that you have these issues, even if they have absolutley no bearing on the current topic and on top of that you fail to even make worthwhile claims or complaints. Its nearly always just "they suck, end of story. I hope GM dies" I think I have still yet to even see an actual list of the causes/problems/concerns with your car...... You just like to bash.
I dont know, nor did I ever say you should like them.
No, this is the place to help bondupimp with his issue, and to discuss drivetrain related topics.
