just got the car and already a problem

i just drove home from picking the car up at the dealer today. and guess what? the tranny wont shift into 5th. well, its not grinding or anything, but i have to lift up on the knob (like to go into reverse) in order to get into 5th gear. so technically i can go into 5th, but its annoying as fak and i cant make the shifter move right at all without pulling up on it.

Same thing with me I got a black one and wanted to test drive it but the sales moron said ah it's brand new we use the one over there for test drives, which was a red one that had like 3000 kms on it

lol. nice. i hope they can fix my problem. its not that bad, but its pretty annoying that i cant get into 5th without lifting that thing on the shifter up. and to top it off the cars alignment is a little off. pulls to the left pretty good.

5th is a hard gear when i first got this since the base wasnt a short throw. if i left up it gose past the slot for 5th.

I really do not think you have anything to worry about, the warrenty will take care of it. It most likley requires an adjustment of the cables under the cup holder, or what ever it is they have to fix it.

yeah. im pretty **** when it comes to cars. lol. this is my first ever BRAND NEW car. youd think its perfect for at least 1000 miles before anything happens (because stuff doesnt happen). hopefully the cobalt holds up good after the tranny thing is solved.

my civic never had any problems except the a/c going out and i got it used at 17k. i traded it in earlier today and its at 45k.

Had a friend with the same problem on his. He asked me if it was normal to need to lift the guard for 5th and we were like umm..no. lol He'd never driven a manual before so he didn't know and I guess it was understandable.

It was easily fixed though, so don't fret. They just had to tweak the shifter adjustments a bit.

well what sucks is i wont have time to mod that much before deployment. but when i do get around to modding im gunna do a muffler delete and 3" downpipe first, go wingless (it looks better to me than either wings), aftermarket intercooler, charge pipe, intake (maybe airbox mod since ppl say its better), tune, some various cosmetic mods too like painting my headlights black, painting the rims or getting diffrent rims, window tint, eyelids (for some reason i think they look good), antenna mod.

do they sell underdrive pulleys and all that stuff? those mods are good investments. so is a torque dampner.

and after my warranty is almost up, big turbo. of course, idk what all is available for the ss/tc as far as mods go. never owned a turbo car before.

its not a big deal.. its like 2 tiny adjustments. probably just shows that your the first person to really drive it or get it in that gear lol. cus if the dealership noticed they woulda just taken the 20 seconds and adjusted it

underdrive pulley is a big no no , they are a harmonic dampener and help with crank longevity. The torque dampener is a waste imho ottp makes some rotated mounts that work wonders for wheel hop.

yeah cobalts have harmonic dampeners, you dont want to mess with the underdrive pulley

being a new car you shouldn't have to adjust the shifter cables. but you can do it yourself in about 5 minutes by leaving the car in 5th gear. pull out the cupholder, and then lift the shift boot out as well above the shifter. adjust the right cable for side to side play by unclipping it. then move the shifter to left a bit until its resting against the guard. put clip back on, and shift through all gears to make sure it's done correctly.
