KEY Stuck...NOT SHIFTER
KEY Stuck...NOT SHIFTER
Greetings. Just bought a 06 LS that's been pretty meticulously cared for. We have it home 24 hours, and the key suddenly won't come out. Pretty quickly, I find the pin under the column and am able to remove the key just fine. I find the issue online with the shifter and the microswitch. The rod is in place, and the shifter looks great. manually clicking the microswitch does nothing for removing the key. I would expect to hear the solenoid in the Steering column click, but nothing. I can push the button and remove the key. The steering wheel doesn't lock, and oddly enough the car won't remotely lock or unlock, or the truck won't release with the remote. They all did when we bought it.....24 hours ago. Has the cursed begun??
I know about the recall on the shifter, but don't think that's it. I was able to jump the wires to the switch, to rule the switch out, but it still didn't work. Does this sound like a cylinder/ignition switch issue?

You may want to make sure the ignition recall was done on the car. Sounds like it wasn't. Pretty sure your remote won't work if there is an issue with it. I'm not familiar with the automatics in the Cobalt's so I will leave that for someone else.
so, that solenoid is part of the key cylinder lock. Im sure i can take the column cover apart and get to it. though, i would need a schematic to know which wire should be energized when the microswitch is activated. Perhaps its a fuse? anybody know which fuse circuit or relay this is part of?

Of course. Car starts, and runs just fine. When you put it park, the rod in the shifter trips the microswitch which activates the solenoid in the column to release the key.
